Position Overview: Flight Attendant
As a Flight Attendant with United Airlines, a global leader in aviation and the largest airline worldwide, you will be an integral part of our rapidly expanding operations. This highly sought-after position does not require specialized schooling or a college degree; comprehensive training is provided by United. The journey begins with industry-leading Flight Attendant training, a 6.5-week intensive program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's rigorous safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees are assigned to one of United's seven hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, or other designated base locations. Relocation funds are not provided.
Onboarding and Training Details:
- Duration: 6.5 weeks Initial Training in Houston, TX.
- Support During Training: A stipend of $140 per week, dual occupancy hotel accommodations, and two meals per day (breakfast and either lunch or dinner).
- Post-Training: Upon successful completion and base orientation, you will be welcomed as a full-time United employee.

- Flexibility and Availability: United's expansive route network requires 24/7 availability, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED required; two or more years of college education is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service-oriented industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, particularly in emergency situations.
- Fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable and considered an asset.
- Second language fluency in languages such as Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog is advantageous.
- Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
- Effective communication skills in high-stress scenarios including evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance and grooming, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck and cannot be covered. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must be no larger than a credit card (3.5" x 2.24") or covered by standard uniform pieces, and must not be offensive in nature. Decorative oral jewelry is not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices for task completion.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with at least 18 months of validity remaining at the time of application. Passport applications or renewals in progress are insufficient.
- Ability to travel globally without restriction to all countries served by United. Applicants are responsible for verifying travel eligibility.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bins, approximately 50 lbs.), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold simultaneously).
- Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operations, including scheduled and reserve days, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Marijuana (medical or recreational) is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
- Must pass a 10-year background check, ensuring no travel restrictions to any United destination. Note: Certain convictions, such as DWI/DUI within the last 10 years, may affect admissibility to countries like Canada, potentially requiring a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).
- Must meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometry levels and corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better.
Compensation and Benefits

- Starting Hourly Pay: $28.88 per hour.
- Top of Scale Pay: $67.11 per hour, with seniority-based increases.
