Job Description:
The primary duty of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is to ensure the utmost safety of passengers during flight. This vital role also encompasses providing compassionate care and delivering exceptional customer service, including the efficient serving of meals and beverages. It is a dynamic and rewarding position offering extensive travel opportunities, new challenges, and the chance to represent the essence of SkyWest Airlines to customers daily.
Primary Duties Include:
- Ensuring the safety and comfort of all customers onboard the aircraft.
- Consistently contributing to a positive and productive work environment among colleagues and with customers.
- Efficiently preparing, serving, and restocking in-flight refreshments, meals, and snacks, and facilitating onboard sales of liquor and food.
- Greeting passengers warmly, assisting with carry-on baggage stowage, and delivering clear onboard announcements.
- Providing effective leadership, direction, and assistance in both emergency and non-emergency scenarios.
- Skillfully and calmly resolving passenger situations during flight, addressing potential issues such as disorderly conduct or medical emergencies.
- Ensuring strict compliance with all safety regulations through thorough inspection and safe operation of aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment including, but not limited to, escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and automatic external defibrillators (AED).
- Adhering rigorously to established procedures and performance standards while operating independently.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Prior to commencing training, the applicant must hold a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport book that remains valid for at least 12 months following the application date, along with any necessary visas permitting free travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Excellent command of the English language for effective communication of safety information to passengers and the ability to compose clear, factual, and detailed reports concerning irregular, emergency, or security events.
- Comfortable and proficient in utilizing basic functions of electronic devices and portable electronic devices (PEDs) for operating audio/video systems, tracking in-flight purchases, and performing other flight and training responsibilities.
- Must be willing and able to work varied shifts up to 16 hours in duration, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel frequently and manage lengthy periods away from the domicile, working effectively without constant supervision.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Must agree to relocate to a crew domicile location assigned by the company following successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training. Physical and Other Requirements:
- Height and weight must be proportionate to safely operate within the aircraft cabin environment and must not exceed specific aircraft dimensions. This includes the ability to comfortably sit in the jump seat with the harness fastened, move freely through the cabin aisle, and operate emergency exits. Height must be between 5’0” and 6’0” without shoes.
- Must possess the physical capability to perform tasks necessitating frequent walking, bending below ankle level, and reaching above shoulder level. This includes the ability to open emergency exits and close aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds, push and pull a beverage cart weighing up to 250 pounds, and lift, store, transport, and reach for items. Reasonable accommodation may be available.
- Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing range must be within 15-17kHZ.
- Overall appearance must maintain a professional, neat, and clean presentation. Extreme hair styles or colors are not permitted.
- Single stud nose piercings 2mm or smaller are allowed. A maximum of two piercings per ear is permitted. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs not exceeding ½”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are prohibited.
- Visible tattoos are permissible subject to limitations based on dimension and location. Tattoos falling outside these guidelines must be fully covered by the uniform or with skin tone compatible tattoo makeup. Bandages are not an approved method of tattoo coverage. Offensive tattoos are strictly prohibited from being visible.
- Must adhere to wearing a company-issued uniform and compliant face mask/covering as required by policy.
Compensation:
The starting pay rate for Flight Attendants is $29.73 per flight hour. Upon successful completion of the initial new hire training phases, new hire flight attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours per month as a reserve. This results in a base gross monthly compensation of $2,437.80 (exclusive of per diem, boarding pay, or any flight hours worked exceeding the monthly guarantee). Additionally, a per diem rate of $2.25 is provided for every hour spent on duty away from the assigned domicile.
