About the Role
As a Flight Attendant with United Airlines, a global leader in aviation with a vast network and rapid expansion, you will be integral to delivering exceptional safety and service standards. This position does not require specialized schooling or a college degree; all necessary training is provided by United.
Comprehensive Training and Base Assignment
Your journey begins with industry-leading Flight Attendant training. The initial 6.5-week intensive program is held in Houston, TX, focusing on United's rigorous safety and service protocols. Upon successful completion, you will be assigned to one of United's seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, or another designated flight attendant base location. Please note that relocation funds are not provided. Following base orientation, you will be welcomed as a full-time United employee. During the training period, trainees receive a stipend of $140 per week, along with dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and two meals daily.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED; two or more years of college education is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, especially in emergency situations.
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding). Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable, including Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog.
- Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
- Capacity to communicate effectively during high-stress situations, including evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, and severe weather.
- Professional appearance and grooming, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, fingers, or neck; visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must adhere to specific size and content restrictions.
- No decorative covers or adornments on teeth or in the mouth.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices for task completion.
- Possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application, with eligibility for global travel without restrictions.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restriction.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (up to overhead bins), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness and ability to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, professionally.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operations, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, and to work on scheduled or reserve days.
- Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; marijuana (medical or recreational) is prohibited.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check, ensuring no restrictions to global travel (e.g., DWI/DUI convictions within the last 10 years may impact travel to certain countries like Canada without specific permits).
- Meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements (e.g., hearing loss averaging no more than 40 dB at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz in the better ear; each eye corrected to 20/40 or better for far and near vision).
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive Starting Pay: $28.88 per hour, with potential to reach $67.11 per hour based on seniority.
