Position Description
As one of the largest airlines globally with an expansive network, United Airlines is experiencing significant growth. The Flight Attendant role offers a unique opportunity to explore the world while working. United Airlines provides comprehensive training, eliminating the need for specialized schooling or a college degree for this position.
The journey begins with industry-leading Flight Attendant training, a 6.5-week program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's rigorous safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees are assigned to one of seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, or other designated bases. Relocation funds are not provided. Following base orientation, new Flight Attendants are welcomed as full-time United employees. During training, United provides a stipend of $140 per week, along with dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and two meals daily (breakfast and either lunch or dinner).

Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting Pay: $28.88 per hour, with potential to reach $67.11 per hour based on seniority.

Qualifications and Requirements
United Airlines seeks dedicated individuals who meet the following qualifications and requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED required; a minimum of two years of college education is preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience within the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, particularly in emergency situations.
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Fluency in Greek (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
- Capacity to communicate effectively during high-stress events, including evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance with excellent grooming standards, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck. Visible tattoos must not exceed credit card size (3.5 x 2.24 inches) or be covered by uniform pieces, and must not be offensive in nature (violent, obscene, sexual, racist, or containing objectionable content or weaponry imagery). Decorative dental adornments are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity prior to expiration at the time of application. Passport applications or renewals in progress are not sufficient.
- Eligibility to travel globally without restrictions, including the ability to enter and exit all countries served by United as a working crew member. A list of served countries is available in the FAQ.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (up to overhead bin capacity or window exit requirements), and pushing/pulling a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
- Successful completion of a functional reach assessment requiring a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold, without shoes, to operate necessary equipment.
- Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
- Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and availability to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operations, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training
Successful candidates must complete the following during onboarding and training:
- A mandatory water evacuation drill during training.
- Pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing assessments.
- DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
- A 10-year background check, including criminal history. Backgrounds must not prohibit international travel, particularly to Canada, which has strict regulations regarding DWI/DUI offenses. Individuals with DWI/DUI convictions within the last 10 years may require a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) for travel to Canada.
- Meeting FAA and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometric thresholds and corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better for both far and near vision in each eye.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $28.88.
