Job Description

As a Flight Attendant with United Airlines, individuals will be integral to ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers on over 28,000 active flights daily. The airline provides exceptional, industry-leading training, requiring no prior specialized schooling or college degree. The comprehensive 6.5-week Initial Training program takes place in Houston, TX, covering United's stringent safety and service standards. Following training, Flight Attendants are assigned to one of seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles. Relocation funds are not provided. Upon successful completion of base orientation, new employees officially join United as full-time team members. During the training period, trainees receive a stipend of $140 per week, along with dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and provided meals.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Pay: Starting hourly wage of $28.88, with potential to reach $67.11 per hour based on seniority. Additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; two or more years of college coursework preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Must be able to speak Greek fluently.
  • Ability to hear and process all types and ranges of sound.
  • Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively in high-stress situations, including emergencies, medical incidents, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to grooming, uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck; visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must be no larger than a credit card and not offensive in nature. Decorative dental or oral adornments are prohibited.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops).
  • Possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Eligibility to travel globally without restrictions is mandatory.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts up to 250 lbs.
  • Successful completion of a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical, 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold).
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, to support a 24/7 operation.
  • Must successfully complete an on-water (pool) evacuation drill during training.
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, ensuring eligibility for unrestricted travel to all countries served by United. Previous DWI/DUI convictions may affect international travel eligibility (e.g., to Canada) without a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).
  • Must meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific decibel loss averages and visual acuity (20/40 or better corrected).
