Role Description

As a United Flight Attendant, individuals will serve as vital members of the inflight crew, ensuring the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of passengers. This highly sought-after position does not require specialized schooling or a college degree; comprehensive, industry-leading training will be provided by United Airlines. The journey begins with a 6.5-week intensive Initial Training program in Houston, Texas, focusing on United's stringent safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees will be assigned to one of United's seven major hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles.

During training, participants will receive a stipend of $140 per week, alongside complimentary dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and daily meals. Following training and base orientation, new employees will be officially welcomed as full-time United team members. Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2+ years of college education is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience within the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, education, aviation, social services).
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, particularly in emergency situations.
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Fluency in German (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills during high-stress incidents such as evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, and severe weather.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to grooming standards, including uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos on the head, hands, or neck are prohibited; visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted if they meet size and content restrictions (not larger than a credit card/employee badge, and not offensive). Decorative dental adornments are not permitted.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops) for job-related tasks.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application, or equivalent foreign passport with necessary visas. Applicants must be able to travel globally without restrictions.
  • Ability to physically perform essential job functions, including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (up to overhead bins), and pushing/pulling beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
  • Successful completion of a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold).
  • Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
  • Willingness to serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that supports United's 24/7 operations, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, ensuring no restrictions to international travel (e.g., specific countries have strict policies regarding DWI/DUI convictions).
  • Meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements (e.g., better ear hearing loss average not exceeding 40 dB at 500, 1000, 2000 Hz; corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better in each eye for far and near vision).

Starting Hourly Flight Pay: $28.88

Top of Base Scale Pay: $67.11/hour

Additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This position is also eligible for bonuses (e.g., profit sharing).
