About the Role: Flight Attendant
As part of a dynamic team of over 28,000 active flight attendants, individuals will contribute to the operations of the world's largest airline, known for its unparalleled network and rapid growth. This highly sought-after position offers the unique prospect of exploring the globe while performing essential duties. United Airlines provides comprehensive training, eliminating the need for specialized prior schooling or a college degree.
The journey commences with industry-leading Flight Attendant training, a 6.5-week immersive program held in Houston, Texas. This training focuses on United's rigorous safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees are assigned to one of United's seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles. Relocation assistance is not provided. Following base orientation, new employees are welcomed as full-time United team members.
During the initial training period, participants receive a stipend of $140 per week, along with dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and daily meals (breakfast and either lunch or dinner, depending on the schedule).

Qualifications and Requirements
Prospective candidates must meet the following qualifications and requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED; a minimum of two years of college education is preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience within the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly in emergency situations.
- Fluent in English, including reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
- Fluent in Italian, both spoken and written.
- Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
- Effective communication skills during high-stress situations such as evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance and grooming, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permissible if they do not exceed the size of a credit card (3.5" x 2.24") and are not offensive in nature.
- No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on or in the mouth.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops) for task completion.
- Possession of a valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity prior to its expiration date at the time of application.
- Must currently possess a valid U.S. passport book or a foreign passport book with applicable visas and be eligible for unrestricted global travel. Having applied for or awaiting passport renewal is insufficient.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restrictions. Eligibility must be verified by the applicant.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (up to overhead bin capacity), and pushing/pulling a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold, without shoes) to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
- Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operations, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training Expectations
- Successful completion of an in-water (pool) evacuation drill during training is mandatory.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Marijuana use (medical or recreational) is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
- Successful completion of a 10-year background check, including criminal history. Background must permit travel to all United destinations. Note: Certain convictions, such as DWI/DUI, may affect inadmissibility to countries like Canada, potentially requiring a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).
- Meeting Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometric loss limits and corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better in each eye.
