Job Description
As a Flight Attendant with United Airlines, an individual will join a team of over 28,000 active flight attendants, contributing to the operations of the world's largest airline with an ever-expanding network. This highly sought-after position does not require specialized schooling or a college degree; comprehensive training is provided by United.
The United Flight Attendant journey commences with industry-leading initial training spanning 6.5 weeks in Houston, TX, focusing on United's stringent safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, a base assignment will be allocated from one of seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, along with other flight attendant base locations. Please note, relocation funds are not provided. Following base orientation, individuals will be officially welcomed as full-time United employees. During the training period, trainees receive a stipend of $140 per week, including dual occupancy hotel accommodations and two daily meals.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88, with the potential to reach $67.11 per hour at the top of the base scale.

Onboarding and Training:
- Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
- Successful completion of a 10-year background check, ensuring eligibility to travel globally without restrictions. Specific attention is given to international travel regulations, such as those for Canada concerning DWI/DUI charges.
- Meeting Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific corrective vision standards (20/40 or better) and hearing thresholds.
This position is bonus eligible.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED required; two or more years of college education is preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, especially in emergency situations.
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Dutch is required.
- Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
- Effective communication skills during high-stress events such as evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance and grooming, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Visible tattoos are permitted on arms, wrists, legs, and feet, provided they are not larger than a credit card/employee badge (3.5" x 2.24") and are not offensive in nature. Tattoos on the head, hands, or neck are prohibited.
- No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or within the mouth.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops) for task completion.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or a foreign passport book with applicable visas, with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Passport status must be current (applied for or renewed is insufficient).
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United Airlines without restriction. Applicants are responsible for verifying travel eligibility to all destinations served by United.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (up to overhead bins), and pushing/pulling a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs).
- Successful completion of a functional reach assessment: a combined vertical reach of 76 inches and a horizontal reach of 43.5 inches, held simultaneously without shoes, to operate equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
- Willingness and ability to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Flexibility to work a schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
