Role Overview

United Airlines currently employs over 28,000 dedicated Flight Attendants, operating as the world's largest airline with an expansive and rapidly growing network. The Flight Attendant position is highly sought after due to the unique opportunity to travel the world while professionally engaged. United Airlines provides comprehensive training, eliminating the need for prior specialized schooling or a college degree.

The journey begins with industry-leading Flight Attendant training, a 6.5-week immersive program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's rigorous safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, Flight Attendants are assigned to one of seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, with other base locations also available. Relocation assistance is not provided. Following base orientation, individuals are welcomed as full-time United employees. During training, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, alongside dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and daily meals.

Onboarding and Training

All Flight Attendant trainees must successfully complete an underwater evacuation drill. Pre-employment requirements include a DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Passing DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens is mandatory; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role. A 10-year background check is required, ensuring eligibility to travel globally. Specific guidelines, such as those for entering Canada with DWI/DUI charges, must be adhered to. Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements must be met, including specific metrics for hearing loss and visual acuity (20/40 or better corrected for both far and near vision).

Compensation and Benefits

During training, United provides a $140/week stipend, accommodations, and two meals daily. Successful training graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.
