Compensation and Benefits:

  • Starting Hourly Pay: $28.88, with potential to reach $67.11 per hour based on seniority and scale.

Qualifications and Requirements:

United Airlines seeks individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college education is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service-oriented industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, education, aviation, social services).
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to speak, read, write, and understand the language clearly and concisely, audibly in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand German fluently.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills, especially in high-stress scenarios such as evacuations, security threats, or medical emergencies.
  • Professional appearance, adhering to grooming standards and uniform guidelines, including restrictions on visible tattoos (not permitted on head, hands, or neck; visible tattoos must be smaller than a credit card/employee badge and not offensive). Decorative dental adornments are not permitted.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for job-related tasks.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Expired or pending passports are not sufficient.
  • Eligibility to travel globally without restrictions to all countries served by United Airlines.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting objects up to overhead bin capacity, and pushing/pulling a beverage cart up to 250 lbs.
  • Successful completion of a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold).
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment DOT drug screens, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests, adhering to FAA and United Airlines requirements.
  • Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
  • Background must not prohibit global travel, with specific considerations for offenses such as DWI/DUI (e.g., inadmissibility to Canada within the last 10 years without a Temporary Resident Permit).
  • Vision requirements: each eye must be 20/40 or better corrected for far and near vision. Hearing requirements: not having hearing loss on audiometry in the better ear greater than 40 dB when losses at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz are averaged.

Onboarding and Training:

United Airlines provides comprehensive training to prepare new Flight Attendants for their roles. The initial training program is a rigorous 6.5-week intensive course held in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and service standards. Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, individuals will be officially welcomed as full-time employees. Applicants must be able to pass all pre-employment screenings, including DOT drug tests, background checks, and physical assessments.
