United Airlines seeks dedicated individuals to join its esteemed team as Flight Attendants. Your Journey Begins Here

The United Flight Attendant journey commences with an industry-leading, 6.5-week initial training program in Houston, TX. This immersive training covers United's stringent safety and service protocols. Upon successful completion, trainees are assigned to one of United's seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, or other designated bases. While relocation funds are not provided, United offers a stipend of $140 per week during training, including dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and daily meals. Upon concluding training and base orientation, successful candidates are welcomed as full-time United employees.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2+ years of college experience is preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service experience in sectors such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, capable of speaking loudly enough to be heard in emergency situations.
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to read, write, and understand the language.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Dutch.
  • Ability to perceive all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills during high-stress situations, including evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, and severe weather.
  • Professional appearance and grooming that adheres to United's uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Visible tattoos are permitted on arms, wrists, legs, and feet, provided they are not larger than a credit card (3.5” x 2.24”) and are free of offensive imagery. Tattoos on the head, neck, or hands are not permitted.
  • No decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic devices for task completion.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign equivalent with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application, enabling unrestricted global travel.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restriction.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, reaching, lifting up to overhead bin capacity, and pushing/pulling a beverage cart up to 250 lbs.
  • Successful completion of a functional reach assessment.
  • Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
  • Willingness to serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, supporting United's 24/7 operation.

Onboarding and Training Requirements

  • Successful completion of a water evacuation drill during training.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
  • Successful completion of a 10-year background check, ensuring no travel restrictions to any United destinations (e.g., DWI/DUI convictions may impact entry to certain countries like Canada).
  • Meet Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometric and visual acuity standards.
