The Role
A United Airlines Flight Attendant embarks on an industry-leading journey, starting with 6.5 weeks of comprehensive Initial Training in Houston, TX. This intensive program covers United’s rigorous safety and service standards. Upon successful completion of training, Flight Attendants are assigned a base location within one of United’s major hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or other designated flight attendant base locations. This role does not require specialized schooling or a college degree, as full training is provided by United.
Flight Attendants are instrumental in creating memorable travel experiences, exploring new cultures, and embodying United’s commitment to excellence with every flight, every day.
Key Responsibilities and Proficiencies
The Flight Attendant plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of all passengers. Essential proficiencies include:
- Safety First: Prioritizing and upholding the highest levels of safety protocols and procedures onboard the aircraft.
- A "People-First" Demeanor: Demonstrating an exceptional ability to adapt and respond to diverse customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity. This includes direct engagement with customers through outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the capacity to resolve issues with understanding, compassion, and grace, thereby influencing customer loyalty through excellent service.
- Flexibility: Being available for global assignments 24/7, which includes working nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Flight Attendants must fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be prepared for extended periods away from their assigned base.
- Dependability and Timeliness: Exhibiting critical dependability and punctuality to ensure seamless operations and meet customer expectations effectively.
- Team Player: Possessing a consistent track record of working effectively both independently and as an integral part of a diverse inflight team.
- Serving and selling food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
