Role Description

A United Airlines Flight Attendant serves as a primary point of contact for passengers, responsible for ensuring their safety, comfort, and satisfaction throughout the flight. This role requires individuals who are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of service and safety within a dynamic, customer-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities and Proficiencies

Training and Onboarding

Successful candidates will participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week Initial Training program located in Houston, TX. This training focuses on mastering United's safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, a base location will be assigned from among United's hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or other designated bases. Relocation funds are not provided. Following training and base orientation, individuals transition to full-time employee status. During Initial Training, United provides a weekly stipend of $140, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodations, breakfast, and either lunch or dinner. Successful training graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.

Compensation and Benefits

United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package. The starting hourly flight pay is currently $28.88, with seniority-based increases culminating at a top of base scale of $67.11 per hour. Additional compensation is provided for proficiency in language skills, assuming lead positions, and undertaking international trips. This position is also eligible for bonus programs, including profit sharing.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

Pre-employment and Training Requirements

Selected candidates must successfully complete a water evacuation drill during training. Pre-employment processes include a DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Successful completion of DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens is mandatory; the use of medical and recreational marijuana is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role. A 10-year background check, including criminal history, is required; the background must not prevent travel to any destination served by United (e.g., specific restrictions apply for individuals with DWI/DUI history traveling to Canada unless a Temporary Resident Permit is obtained). Candidates must meet FAA and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, including specific audiometry and corrected vision standards.
