United Airlines is seeking dedicated individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. Description

Flight Attendants play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers aboard United flights. This highly desired position offers the unique ability to travel the world as part of one's profession. United provides comprehensive, industry-leading training; no prior special schooling or college degree is strictly required for this role.

The journey begins with 6.5 weeks of Initial Training in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and service standards. Trainees will be assigned a base location from one of the seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or another Flight Attendant base location; relocation funds are not provided. Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, individuals become full-time United employees. During training, United provides a stipend of $140 per week, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodations and two meals per day (breakfast and lunch or dinner, depending on the training schedule).

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED; 2 or more years of college preferred.
  • Requires at least one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
  • Must be able to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard in an emergency.
  • Ability to fluently speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must be able to fluently read and speak Italian.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in high-stress situations (e.g., evacuation, security threats, emergencies, weather).
  • Maintain a professional appearance and excellent grooming standards, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Specific tattoo policy applies (no visible tattoos on head, hands, or neck; visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, feet must be smaller than a credit card or covered, and must not be offensive).
  • Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
  • Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for job tasks.
  • Must possess a valid passport book prior to application with at least 18 months of validity remaining. Must have physical possession of a valid U.S. or foreign passport book with applicable visas and global travel eligibility without restrictions.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions. Applicants are responsible for verifying their travel eligibility.
  • Must meet physical requirements including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (luggage, exit door), and pushing/pulling a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
  • Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold without shoes) required for operating equipment and doors.
  • Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Must be willing and able to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) professionally.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Onboarding and Training Expectations

Prospective Flight Attendants can expect the following during onboarding and training:

  • Successful completion of a water evacuation drill in a pool during training is required.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
  • Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history. Background must not prohibit travel to any United destination. Candidates with DWI/DUI charges within the last 10 years may require a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) from the Canadian government to travel to Canada for work duties.
  • Must meet FAA and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation (specific audiometry and vision standards apply).

Upon successful completion of training, graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.
