Role Summary
The Flight Attendant is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers while providing exceptional customer service during flight. This role requires a commitment to upholding the highest safety standards and representing United Airlines with pride and distinction.
Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize and ensure the highest levels of safety throughout the flight.

- Engage directly with customers using excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve issues effectively and compassionately.
- Influence customer loyalty by delivering exceptional service on every flight.
- Serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
- Operate necessary safety equipment, machinery, and doors, including successfully completing water evacuation drills during training.
- Proficiently use electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for job-related tasks.
- Work independently and collaboratively as part of a cohesive cabin crew team.
Work Environment and Flexibility
Flight Attendants operate within United's comprehensive route network, requiring availability for global assignments 24/7. This includes working nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. The role involves fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from the assigned base for multiple days at a time. Dependability and timeliness are paramount to maintaining the flight schedule and meeting customer expectations.
Training and Onboarding
The journey begins with comprehensive, industry-leading Flight Attendant training. This intensive 6.5-week program is conducted in Houston, TX, focusing on safety and service standards. Trainees will be assigned a base location at one of United's hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles, or another flight attendant base location (relocation funds are not provided). Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, individuals will be welcomed as full-time United employees. A weekly stipend, dual occupancy hotel accommodations, and meals are provided during training. Successful training graduates are eligible for a bonus.

- Starting Hourly Flight Pay: $28.88, with the potential to reach $67.11/hour at the top of the base pay scale.

Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates interested in this dynamic role must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED; two or more years of college education is preferred.
- Have at least one year of customer service experience within a service industry setting (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Demonstrate the ability to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard in emergency situations.
- Must be able to fluently speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to speak, read, and write Greek fluently is required.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound is necessary.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to excellent grooming standards, including uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Note: Visible tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card/employee badge (3.5 x 2.24 inches) or must be covered by uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not contain offensive content. Decorative covers or jewelry on teeth/in the mouth are not permitted.
- Possess a valid passport at the time of application with at least 18 months of remaining validity.
- Hold a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas, ensuring eligibility to travel globally without restrictions as a working crew member to all countries United serves. Travel eligibility is subject to verification by the applicant.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to perform physical duties including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (such as luggage to overhead bins), and pushing/pulling beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold simultaneously, without shoes) to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting a 24/7 operation (including weekdays, weekends, and holidays).
Onboarding and Compliance
Successful candidates must be willing to complete pre-employment screenings, including DOT drug screens (randomized screening is also required; medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited), comprehensive background checks covering a 10-year history (which must not prohibit travel to United destinations, including those with strict entry requirements like Canada), fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Hearing and vision must meet FAA and United Airlines standards, including specific requirements for audiometry and corrected vision (20/40 or better corrected for near and far vision in each eye).
