United Airlines operates with over 28,000 active Flight Attendants, forming the cabin crew of the world's largest airline boasting the most expansive network and experiencing unprecedented growth. The highly sought-after Flight Attendant position offers the unique opportunity to see the world while working. No specific college degree or specialized schooling is required, as comprehensive training is provided by the airline.
The career begins with industry-leading Flight Attendant training, spanning 6.5 weeks in Houston, TX. Trainees learn the airline's stringent safety and service standards. During training, each trainee is assigned a base location from seven hubs including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles, or other designated flight attendant base locations (relocation funds are not provided). Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, individuals are welcomed as full-time employees. While attending training, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodations, breakfast, and either lunch or dinner depending on the training schedule. Successful training graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.
Compensation begins with a starting hourly flight pay of $28.88, with the potential to reach a top base scale of $67.11 per hour. Pay increases are seniority-based, and additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This position is bonus eligible, including profit sharing.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possesses a high school diploma or GED; 2 or more years of college are preferred.
- Holds at least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Must be able to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard during emergencies.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Ability to speak, read, and understand Italian fluently is required.
- Capable of hearing all types and ranges of sound.
- Able to communicate effectively in high-stress situations such as aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Maintains a professional appearance and excellent grooming standards, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear.
- Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card / employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered by standard uniform pieces.
- Visible tattoos must not be offensive (including but not limited to violent, obscene, sexual, racist content, objectionable content, or imagery with weapons).
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiently operates electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for work tasks.
- Must possess a valid passport at the time of application with at least 18 months of validity remaining prior to its expiration. Physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions is required. An application in process or waiting for renewal is not sufficient.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries the airline serves without any restrictions as a working crew member, not as a passenger. Applicants are responsible for verifying travel eligibility.
- Able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bin, window exit), and push and pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs).
- Able to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous), without shoes on, to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Able to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting a 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training Expectations:
- Successful completion of a water (pool) evacuation drill during training is mandatory.
- Completion of pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests is required.
- Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
- Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history. The background must not prohibit travel to or from any destination served by the airline. Note: Canada has strict inadmissibility rules for DWI/DUI charges, including misdemeanors; a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) is required from the Canadian government if there has been a probation or conviction for DWI/DUI within the last 10 years, for work duties to continue temporarily.
- Must, with or without reasonable accommodation, meet hearing and vision requirements as established by the Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines, including specific audiometry and corrected vision standards.
