Benefits & Compensation
- Starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with the potential to reach a top base scale of $67.11 per hour.
- Compensation includes seniority-based pay increases and additional pay for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
- This position is bonus eligible, including potential profit sharing.

Training & Onboarding
- Successful candidates will attend a comprehensive 6.5-week Initial Training program in Houston, TX, focusing on United’s safety and service standards.
- During training, a base location will be assigned from one of United's seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or other flight attendant base locations (relocation funds are not provided).
- Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, individuals become full-time United employees.
- During training, United provides a $140 weekly stipend, dual occupancy hotel accommodations, and two meals per day.
- Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus.
- Training includes successfully completing an evacuation drill in the water.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Candidates must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana is prohibited.
- A 10-year background check is required, and the candidate's history must not prohibit travel to any United destination.
- Candidates must meet FAA and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements (loss in better ear no greater than 40 dB average; corrected vision 20/40 or better far and near).
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college is preferred.
- Requires at least one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Must be able to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to speak and read German fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations (e.g., evacuations, security threats, emergencies).
- Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to excellent grooming standards, and comply with uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card/employee badge (3.5" x 2.24") unless covered by a standard uniform piece. Visible tattoos must not contain offensive imagery.
- Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices for required tasks.
- Must possess a valid passport book prior to application with at least 18 months of validity remaining at the time of application. The passport must be in good condition.
- Must be eligible to travel globally without restrictions and enter/exit all countries United serves as a working crew member.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting United’s 24/7 operation (weekdays, weekends, holidays, extended hours).
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to overhead bin or window exit), and push/pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold, without shoes).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
