Role Description
As a Flight Attendant, individuals become integral members of one of the world's largest airlines, supporting an expansive global network that is experiencing significant growth. This highly desired role provides the unique opportunity to experience diverse cultures and destinations while working. United provides comprehensive training; no prior special schooling or college degree is required.
The journey begins with industry-leading Flight Attendant training, a 6.5-week program conducted in Houston, TX. Trainees will learn United's rigorous safety and service standards. Upon successful completion of training, including a water evacuation drill, and base orientation in their assigned location, individuals are welcomed as full-time employees. During initial training, United provides a weekly stipend, dual occupancy hotel accommodations, and meals (breakfast and either lunch or dinner). Assigned bases will be in one of United's major hub locations (relocation funds are not provided).

- Flexibility: Be available for global assignments on a 24/7 basis, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, supporting a comprehensive route network. Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be able to be away from base for multiple days.
- Dependability and Timeliness: Maintain critical dependability and timeliness to ensure smooth operations and meet customer expectations.
- Team Player: Exhibit a consistent track record of working effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits
United offers employees a competitive compensation package.
- Starting Flight Pay: Begins at $28.88 per hour, with potential to reach a top base scale of $67.11 per hour based on seniority.
- Additional Compensation: Provided for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
- Bonus Eligibility: Position is eligible for bonus opportunities, such as profit sharing.

Qualifications and Requirements
Candidates must meet the following qualifications and requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED required; two or more years of college is preferred.
- Possess at least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard during emergencies.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to read and speak German fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations (e.g., aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, turbulence).
- Maintain a professional appearance and excellent grooming standards, adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must be no larger than a credit card (3.5 inches x 2.24 inches) or be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not contain offensive imagery (e.g., violent, obscene, sexual, racist, objectionable content, or weapons).
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for required tasks.
- Possess a valid passport book prior to application. The passport book must be in current physical possession, in good condition, have at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application, and allow for global travel without restrictions. Applying for or waiting for a renewed passport does not meet this requirement.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries the airline serves without any restrictions, entering and exiting as a working crew member.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage into overhead bins, window exits), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold (simultaneous, without shoes) to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule supporting a 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training Expectations
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in the water (pool) during training is required.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history. Background must not prohibit travel to or from any destination the airline serves. Candidates should be aware of strict travel requirements for certain countries, such as Canada's inadmissibility classification for DWI/DUI charges within the last 10 years, and ensure eligibility or necessary permits are obtained prior to application.
- Must, with or without reasonable accommodation, meet FAA and airline hearing and vision requirements, including specific standards for audiometry, far vision, and near vision in each eye.
