As a United Flight Attendant, the primary responsibilities revolve around prioritizing the safety and well-being of passengers while delivering exceptional in-flight service. With a large and rapidly growing fleet, Flight Attendants serve on domestic and international routes across United's comprehensive network. The role involves adapting to diverse customer scenarios, exercising sound judgment, and resolving issues with empathy and grace. Dependability, timeliness, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are crucial for success. This position requires a high degree of flexibility, including availability for assignments 24/7, encompassing nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, and readiness to fulfill reserve assignments often on short notice, which may involve being away from the assigned base for multiple days.
United provides comprehensive, industry-leading training. Successful candidates will attend 6.5 weeks of Initial Training in Houston, TX, focusing on mastering United's safety protocols and service standards. Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, individuals transition to full-time employment. During training, trainees receive a weekly stipend of $140, along with dual occupancy hotel accommodation and two meals daily (breakfast and lunch or dinner).
Successful completion of Initial Training is mandatory, including demonstrating proficiency in safety procedures such as water evacuation drills. The onboarding process includes pre-employment DOT drug screening, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Candidates must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens (medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited). A 10-year background check is required, ensuring eligibility for travel to all destinations served by United. Hearing and vision must meet FAA and United Airlines standards, with specific requirements for audiometry and corrected vision.
United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package. The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with the potential to reach the top base scale of $67.11 per hour based on seniority. Additional compensation may be earned for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This position is bonus eligible (e.g., profit sharing).
