Flight Attendant

Responsibilities:
- Ensure the highest levels of safety onboard each flight, adhering strictly to all safety protocols and procedures.

- Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or possess a GED; two or more years of college preferred.
- Possess at least one year of customer service experience within the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social services).
- Must be able to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard in emergency situations.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to read and speak Vietnamese fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effectively communicate during high-stress situations such as aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance with excellent grooming standards and adhere to company uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card / employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not be offensive (including violent, obscene, sexual, racist, or objectionable content, or imagery involving weapons). Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are prohibited.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for required tasks.
- Must possess a valid passport book at the time of application with at least 18 months of remaining validity prior to its expiration. Eligibility to travel globally without restrictions is required.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without any restrictions, entering and exiting as a working crew member.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to an overhead bin or window exit), and push and pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes, to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United’s 24/7 operation (weekdays, weekends, holidays, extended hours, etc.).
Training:
Flight Attendant trainees will undergo a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. Successful completion of this training is mandatory. During training, United provides accommodations, breakfast, lunch, and a $140/week stipend.
Compensation and Benefits:
United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package including competitive pay, exceptional benefits, and travel privileges. The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with a top of base scale reaching $67.11 per hour. Seniority-based pay increases are provided, with additional compensation available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This is a bonus eligible position (e.g., profit sharing).

Additional Information:
Flight attendant trainees must successfully complete a water evacuation drill during training. Pre-employment requirements include a DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Candidates must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited. A 10-year background check, including criminal history, is required, and background must not prohibit travel to or from any location United serves.
