This role is highly desired and does not require specialized schooling or a college degree, as comprehensive training is provided by United. Flight Attendants are essential ambassadors of the airline, representing United with pride and distinction on every flight.
Responsibilities:
- Prioritize and ensure the highest levels of safety for all passengers and crew members during flight operations.
- Provide outstanding customer service with a "People-First" demeanor, adapting to and resolving diverse customer-facing scenarios with optimism, positivity, understanding, compassion, and grace.
- Engage directly with customers using excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
- Influence customer loyalty through attentive service and the ability to craft memorable travel experiences.
- Be available for assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, demonstrating flexibility and availability for global travel across the extensive route network.
- Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be prepared for extended periods away from the assigned base location.
- Maintain exceptional dependability and timeliness to support operational schedules and meet customer expectations.
- Work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of the Inflight team.
- Serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
- Operate electronic devices proficiently for required tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED. Two or more years of college education is preferred.
- Requires at least one year of prior customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Must be able to speak English fluently, clearly, concisely, and loudly enough to be heard in an emergency situation.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to read and speak Thai fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuation, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance with excellent grooming standards and adhere strictly to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must not exceed the size of a credit card/employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide); larger tattoos must be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not be offensive in content.
- Decorative covers, adornments, and jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are prohibited.
- Must possess a valid passport book in good condition with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application. Must have physical possession of the passport prior to application.
- Must have current physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions as a working crew member to all countries United serves.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to overhead bins or window exits), and push and pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Must be able to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes, to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting United’s 24/7 operation (weekdays, weekends, holidays, etc.).
- Relocation funds are not provided for base assignments.
Onboarding and Training:
- Successful completion of a mandatory 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and customer service standards.
- Successful completion of a water evacuation drill (pool).
- Ability to pass pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
- Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history. Background must not prohibit travel to United destinations; candidates with DWI/DUI convictions or probation within the last 10 years must possess a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) for Canada prior to application if travel to Canada is required.
Benefits and Compensation:
- Competitive compensation package including competitive pay, benefits, and travel privileges.
- Starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with the top of the base scale reaching $67.11/hour based on seniority.
- Additional compensation is provided for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
