United currently operates with over 28,000 active Flight Attendants. As one of the largest airlines globally with a vast network, the airline is experiencing significant growth. The role of a Flight Attendant is highly sought after due to the unique opportunity to see the world while working. This position does not require special schooling or a college degree; full training is provided by the airline.

Training and Base Assignment:
Successful candidates will begin their career with a 6.5-week training program located in Houston, TX. This comprehensive training covers the airline's safety and customer service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees will be welcomed as full-time employees and assigned to one of the airline's seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or another Flight Attendant base location. Relocation funds are not provided. During training, a weekly stipend of $140 is provided, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch. Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus.
Compensation and Benefits:
The starting hourly flight pay for this role is $28.88, with the top of the base scale reaching $67.11 per hour. Pay increases are based on seniority, and additional compensation is provided for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as profit sharing. The airline offers a competitive compensation package including exceptional benefits. Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED. Two or more years of college are preferred.
- Must have at least one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Must be able to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard during emergencies.
- Must possess fluent written and spoken English language skills.
- Must be able to read and speak Thai fluently.
- Must be able to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to excellent grooming standards, including uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are prohibited on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted but must be no larger than a credit card/employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not be offensive (violent, obscene, sexual, racist, or containing objectionable content or imagery including weapons).
- Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Must be proficient in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) necessary for job duties.
- Must possess a valid passport book *prior* to application with at least 18 months of remaining validity. Possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions is required. Having applied for or awaiting a passport is not sufficient.
- Must be able to travel to and from all countries the airline serves without restrictions. Applicants are responsible for verifying travel eligibility as a working crew member, not as a passenger, for all destinations served.
- Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bins or window exits), and push and pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Must pass a functional reach assessment demonstrating a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneously), without shoes, to operate necessary equipment and doors.
- Must be able to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting the airline's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Onboarding and Training Expectations:
- Flight Attendant trainees must successfully complete a water evacuation drill during training.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
- Must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history. The background must not prohibit travel to or from any location the airline flies. For example, Canada has strict rules regarding DWI/DUI charges (including misdemeanors) within the last 10 years, potentially requiring a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) from the Canadian government to perform work duties there.
