Flight Attendant Opportunity

United Airlines invites applications for the position of Flight Attendant, a role integral to providing exceptional service and ensuring the safety of passengers on board. Role and Responsibilities:

Flight Attendants are responsible for upholding the highest standards of safety, demonstrating a "People-First" demeanor by adapting and responding effectively to diverse customer scenarios with optimism, positivity, and outstanding interpersonal skills. They utilize good judgment, compassion, and grace to resolve issues, influencing customer loyalty through excellent service and proudly representing United. The role requires flexibility, including availability for global assignments 24/7, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Flight Attendants must be prepared to fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and may be away from their base for multiple days. Dependability and timeliness are paramount for success in this role, contributing directly to the airline's operational schedule and meeting customer expectations. Flight Attendants work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team. This dynamic position offers the chance to travel the world, explore new cultures, and create memorable experiences for every customer on every flight.

Compensation and Benefits:

United offers a competitive compensation package, including a starting hourly flight pay of $28.88, with the potential to reach a top base scale of $67.11 per hour based on seniority. Additional compensation may be earned for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. The position is also eligible for bonuses, including profit sharing.

Comprehensive benefits are provided, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life, accident & disability coverage, an employee assistance program, commuter benefits, paid holidays, paid time off (sick and vacation), and a 401(k) retirement plan. A significant perk includes flight privileges allowing the employee, their family, and friends to fly anywhere in the world on a stand-by basis.

Training Program:

Successful candidates will attend a mandatory 6.5-week training program in Houston, Texas, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. Upon successful completion, trainees are welcomed as full-time employees and assigned to one of United's seven hubs – Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles – or another flight attendant base location (relocation funds are not provided). During training, United provides a $140 per week stipend, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch. Graduates who successfully complete the training receive a $1,000 bonus.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Applicants for the Flight Attendant position must meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college is preferred.
  • Have at least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (such as retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, or social service).
  • Be able to speak clearly, concisely, and in an organized manner, with sufficient volume to be heard in an emergency.
  • Demonstrate fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Be able to speak and read Thai fluently.
  • Possess the ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, adhering to excellent grooming standards and complying with uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted if no larger than a credit card (approximately 3.5 inches x 2.24 inches) or covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not contain offensive content (including violent, obscene, sexual, racist imagery or weapons). Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
  • Be proficient in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for required tasks.
  • Possess a valid passport prior to application, with at least 18 months of remaining validity. Applicants must have physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions as a working crew member to all countries United serves.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting United’s 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage into an overhead bin or window exit), and push/pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
  • Be able to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous, without shoes) to operate necessary equipment and doors.
  • Be able to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
  • Be required to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) professionally.

Onboarding and Training Expectations:

Flight Attendant trainees must successfully complete a water evacuation drill during training. Applicants must be willing to complete a pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. Passing DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens is required; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position. A 10-year background check, including criminal history, must be passed, and the applicant's background must not prohibit travel to or from any destination United flies. Applicants should be aware of potential travel restrictions based on background history, such as Canada's policy regarding DWI/DUI charges.
