Flight Attendant

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the highest levels of safety for passengers and crew in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company policies.

- Serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, diligently.
- Effectively communicate safety procedures and instructions to passengers, particularly during high-stress or emergency situations.

- Manage time effectively and demonstrate reliability, particularly when fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice.

Compensation & Benefits:
United offers a competitive compensation package. The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with potential for seniority-based increases up to $67.11/hour base scale. Additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. This position is bonus eligible (e.g., profit sharing).

Training:
Successful candidates will undergo a mandatory 6.5-week full-time training program in Houston, Texas. This program covers essential safety protocols and customer service standards. During training, trainees receive a $140/week stipend, accommodations, and two meals per day (breakfast and lunch during the week). Upon successful completion of training, graduates receive a $1,000 bonus. Relocation funds are not provided for base assignment.
Base Assignment:
Upon successful completion of training, Flight Attendants are assigned to one of United’s Flight Attendant base locations, which may include hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or other locations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates for the Flight Attendant position must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED. Two or more years of college is preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service-related industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and audibly, loud enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Must be fluent in spoken, reading, and written English.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written Thai.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Capability to communicate effectively during high-stress situations.
- Maintain a professional appearance aligned with United's uniform and grooming standards, including guidelines on hair, tattoos, and piercings.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear).
- Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted if no larger than a credit card/employee badge (3.5" x 2.24") or covered by the standard uniform.
- Visible tattoos must not be offensive (e.g., violent, obscene, sexual, racist, objectionable content, weapons imagery).
- Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficient in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for required duties.
- Must possess a valid passport book *prior* to application, with at least 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application.
- Must be eligible to travel globally without restriction and meet entry/exit requirements for all countries United serves as a working crew member.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bins or window exits), and pushing/pulling beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes, to operate necessary equipment.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for multiple days.
Pre-employment Requirements:
Candidates must successfully complete the following:
- A water evacuation drill during training.
- Pre-employment Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen. Due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position, medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
- Comprehensive background checks and fingerprinting.
- Vision and hearing tests.
- A 10-year background check, including criminal history. The candidate's background must not prohibit travel to any country United serves. Note that countries like Canada have strict regulations regarding entry with certain convictions, such as DWI/DUI.
