Role Description
Flight Attendants are integral members of the cabin crew, entrusted with upholding the highest safety standards and delivering outstanding customer service. Key responsibilities include:

This position requires significant flexibility and availability to support United's global 24/7 operation. Flight Attendants must be prepared for assignments on short notice, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended periods away from their assigned base location. Dependability and punctuality are paramount to operational success and meeting customer expectations.
Training
Successful candidates will complete an intensive 6.5-week paid training program in Houston, Texas. This comprehensive training covers all essential safety, security, and customer service standards. Upon successful graduation, individuals will be assigned as full-time Flight Attendants to one of United's designated base locations, which include major hubs such as Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles, among others. Relocation assistance is not provided. During training, a weekly stipend of $140 is provided, along with accommodations and two meals per day. A $1,000 bonus is awarded upon successful completion of training.
Qualifications and Requirements
Prospective Flight Attendants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college are preferred.
- Have a minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service-oriented industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and audibly, sufficient to be heard in emergency situations.
- Must be fluent in spoken, written, and understanding of English.
- Must be fluent in spoken, written, and understanding of Thai.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Capable of communicating effectively during high-stress situations, including emergencies and operational disruptions.
- Adhere to professional appearance and grooming standards, including specific guidelines regarding uniforms, hair, tattoos, and piercings. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck. Visible tattoos on other parts of the body must not exceed the size of a credit card or must be covered by standard uniform items. Offensive tattoo imagery is prohibited. Decorative covers or adornments on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops for job-related tasks.
- Must possess a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas at the time of application, with a minimum of 18 months of validity remaining. Physical possession of the passport is required prior to application; having applied or waiting for a renewal is not sufficient.
- Ability to travel to and from all international destinations served by United Airlines without restriction as a working crew member. Applicants are responsible for verifying their eligibility to enter and exit all required countries.
- Capable of performing physical duties including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bins), and pushing/pulling a beverage cart weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Successfully pass a functional reach assessment (combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach, performed without shoes).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness properly fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and extended hours to support a 24/7 operation.
Onboarding and Compliance
Candidates must successfully complete the following:
- A water evacuation drill during the training program.
- Pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks including fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. The use of medical or recreational marijuana is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the Flight Attendant position.
- A 10-year background check, including criminal history. The background must not preclude travel to any country served by United. Candidates with DWI/DUI convictions or probation within the last 10 years may require a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) from the Canadian government to operate flights to Canada.
Compensation and Benefits
United Airlines provides a competitive compensation and benefits package. The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with potential progression to the top of the base scale at $67.11/hour based on seniority.
