Responsibilities
The Flight Attendant's responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the highest levels of safety and security on board the aircraft.
- Adapting and responding to diverse customer needs with optimism and positivity.
- Engaging directly with customers, demonstrating outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding and grace.
- Influencing customer loyalty through excellent service and representing United Airlines with pride.
- Being available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for extended periods.
- Working independently and as a collaborative member of a team.
- Serving and selling food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
- Operating electronic devices proficiently for required tasks.
- Effectively communicating in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service industry (retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service, etc.).
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to read and speak Hebrew fluently.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, loudly enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining and unrestricted global travel eligibility.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts.
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule supporting a 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.
- Ability to pass pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check that does not prohibit travel to any United Airlines destination.
Training
New Flight Attendants will participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a weekly stipend, accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. Upon successful completion of training, graduates will be assigned to one of United's hub locations or other flight attendant base locations.
