Responsibilities:

• Ensure the highest levels of safety and security onboard the aircraft.
• Adapt and respond effectively to diverse customer-facing scenarios.
• Provide direct engagement with customers, utilizing excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
• Resolve customer issues with understanding, compassion, and grace.
• Represent United Airlines with pride and professionalism.
• Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
• Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from base for extended periods.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
• Operate electronic devices proficiently (phones, tablets, laptops) for task completion.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
• High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
• At least one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social service).
• Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, loud enough to be heard in an emergency.
• Fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
• Fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding German.
• Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
• Effective communication skills for high-stress situations (e.g., aircraft evacuation, security threats, medical emergencies).
• Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
• Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet may not exceed the size of a credit card/employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered by uniform. Tattoos must not be offensive.
• Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
• Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
• Current physical possession of valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions.
• Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without any restrictions. Applicants are responsible for verifying travel eligibility.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (luggage, window exits), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs).
• Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical, 43.5-inch horizontal).
• Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation (weekdays, weekends, holidays).
• Must successfully complete an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.
• Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
• Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
• Must be able to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history.

Compensation and Benefits:

• Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour.
• Seniority-based pay increases.
• Additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.

• During training, a $140/week stipend is provided, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch. A $1,000 bonus is awarded upon successful completion of training.

Training:

New Flight Attendants will participate in a 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. Upon successful completion, Flight Attendants will be assigned to one of seven hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or one of United's other flight attendant base locations. Relocation funds are not provided.
