Flight Attendant
Position Purpose
A Flight Attendant is responsible for ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of all passengers, strictly adhering to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company Inflight guidelines. This role is pivotal in upholding the highest standards of safety and service within the cabin environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in fulfilling the following essential duties, with reasonable accommodation made for individuals with disabilities:
- Diligently performs all regulatory and assigned cabin duties, prioritizing the safety and comfort of every passenger.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all emergency procedures and the proper use of emergency equipment on board the aircraft. Proficiently operates all emergency exits and aircraft equipment, requiring the application of up to 70 pounds of force.
- Provides exceptional inflight service, including the distribution of food and beverages, which necessitates pushing and pulling moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
- Assists passengers with the stowing of carry-on baggage, capable of handling items weighing up to and including 35 pounds.
- Ensures a consistently neat and orderly cabin environment throughout the flight.
- Actively contributes to a reliable and on-time operation by collaborating effectively with other crew members to meet all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- Performs inflight sales and promotional duties as assigned.
- Offers support to other Customer Service staff as needed for passenger handling or additional duties.
- Maintains reliable and prompt attendance in strict accordance with Company policies and procedures.
- Presents a professional image through exemplary conduct and appearance, including unwavering adherence to the Company uniform dress code.
- Complies with all Associate Rules of Conduct as outlined in applicable manuals.
- Ensures continuous currency with Inflight guides and manuals.
- Fosters and promotes the Company’s core values and culture throughout the work environment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or required.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform this role.
Education & Experience
- A high school diploma or GED is required, complemented by a minimum of two years of customer service experience.
- Applicants must be at least 20 years of age by the date of the first interview.
- Preferred: Additional years of customer service experience, preferably within an aviation environment, and prior Flight Attendant experience.
Skills & Attributes
- Possesses polished interpersonal skills, a consistently positive attitude, and a strong customer-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to serve alcoholic beverages.
- Ability and willingness to serve and handle various food items, including peanuts, meals containing shellfish/seafood, beef, and pork.
- Capable of working with animals and around various allergens and products.
- Strict adherence to the Company’s Flight Attendant Style Guide (Dress Code) is mandatory. Tattoos are not permitted on the face (including the front of one’s face from the ears forward, underside of chin and cheeks), neck (area down to where a uniform shirt collar would clearly and consistently cover), and hands (including both the tops and palms of one’s hands and fingers, up through the wrist bone). Tattoos in non-prohibited areas must not be visible at any time while in uniform.
- Must possess a wingspan of approximately 55 inches or greater to reach and safely operate all necessary equipment on the aircraft.
- For safety reasons, candidates must have the ability to sit securely in the Flight Attendant jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without an extender or other modification that may compromise the integrity of the harness. (For reference: the lap belt measurement is 50 inches when fastened, and the shoulder harness measurement is 40 inches when fastened).
- Multiple visible piercings while in uniform are not permitted.
Language Proficiency
- Exceptional ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Capable of effectively presenting information to and responding to questions from management, crew, passengers, and the general public.
- Must be able to speak and be understood clearly in English, including the capacity to issue shouted verbal commands during emergency situations.
Problem-Solving & Decision Making
- Must be willing to work effectively in a time-sensitive environment and adeptly manage stress associated with meeting deadlines and navigating unexpected changes.
- Capable of interpreting a variety of and multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- A critical requirement is the ability to remain calm, think clearly, and react quickly and decisively in all types of emergency situations, including, but not limited to: medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.
- Makes day-to-day decisions to support the operation, often requiring thoughtful consideration and adherence to structured guidelines.
- Able to process information rapidly and react positively during unexpected and/or serious situations.
- Capable of controlling personal and emotional responses, acting appropriately under high levels of stress.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Possesses the physical strength to reach and operate all emergency equipment and exits using necessary movements and force up to and including 70 pounds.
- Capable of lifting objects above shoulders up to and including 35 pounds.
- Able to push and pull moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
- Able to walk and stand for extended periods, sometimes with aircraft turbulence.
- Must be able to stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and kneel.
- Able to see clearly at 20 feet or more with corrective lenses or contacts.
- Able to clearly hear verbal communications in person and over airplane communication systems with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Must be able to sit securely in the assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
- Must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly within a confined environment.
- Able to work extended duty periods on sequential days.
Work Environment & Travel
The work environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the ability to interact professionally with a culturally diverse passenger base and crew under potentially stressful conditions. Flight Attendants must be adept at accommodating passengers with special needs or disabilities.
- This role demands flexibility for extended duty periods and varied work schedules, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
- Extensive travel is required, up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Successful applicants must also be willing to relocate based on the Company’s operational needs.
