Position Summary:

The Flight Attendant at CommuteAir is responsible for performing or assisting with all inflight safety, customer service, and cabin preparation duties. This role involves effective communication and cooperation with flight and ground crews as an integral team member, ensuring a safe and pleasant travel experience for passengers.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures safety standards on board are met and passengers comply with applicable FAA and company regulations and policies.
  • Provides outstanding customer service and assists passengers while on board, representing CommuteAir and its codeshare partner, United Airlines.
  • Completes necessary checklists, paperwork, and reports as outlined in the Flight Attendant Manual.
  • Communicates effectively with pilots and ground crew to ensure efficient and safe operation of flights.
  • Is prepared to handle emergencies at any time during a flight.
  • Comply with company policies as outlined in the Flight Attendant Manual and Employee Handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and agreed upon in applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.

General Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work).
  • Possession of a valid United States or foreign passport with applicable visas is required. Must have the right to travel freely in and out of the United States, to and from all cities served by CommuteAir without restriction.
  • Must be fluent in the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Satisfactory 10-year background history, including criminal background, is required.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 2 years of customer service experience is required.
  • Ability to consistently comply with company uniform and grooming standards while on duty. Policies do not allow for any visible tattoos or piercings other than in the ears.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, maintaining composure and a professional appearance at all times.
  • Possesses mathematical skills necessary for solving problems and completing paperwork.
  • Strong reading comprehension skills to understand text in work-related documents.
  • Excellent listening skills, giving full attention to what others are saying and asking clarifying questions as appropriate.
  • Ability to evaluate new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interacting with passengers, coworkers, and vendor representatives.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires medium work, involving exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force consistently to move objects. Due to cabin maximum height limits on the Embraer 145 XR aircraft, the candidate's height must be between 4'11" and 5'11" without shoes. The ability to push and control a wheeled beverage cart weighing up to 250 lbs. is necessary. The role involves reaching, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, and moving in confined spaces within the aircraft cabin. The ability to reach and operate emergency equipment and exits is required. Must be able to hear clearly in a loud environment. All requirements should be achievable with or without accommodation.

Visual Acuity:

Requires a minimal standard for visual acuity, typical for roles involving the preparation and analysis of data and figures, accounting, computer work, extensive reading, and visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, or the operation of machines using measuring devices.

Environmental Conditions:

The work environment involves varied weather conditions. Activities occur primarily inside the aircraft cabin but include exposure to outside elements, including temperature variations ranging from over 90 degrees to under 32 degrees, depending on locations and climate changes. The environment can be noisy, sometimes requiring shouting to be heard above ambient noise. Atmospheric conditions may cause heightened movement and cabin discomfort.
