The Opportunity: Flight Attendant
Based at Washington Dulles (IAD), the Flight Attendant serves as a vital member of the CommuteAir team, primarily responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers. This role involves performing or assisting with all inflight safety protocols, delivering outstanding customer service, and meticulously preparing the cabin. The Flight Attendant maintains seamless communication and cooperation with both flight and ground crews to ensure efficient and secure operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures strict adherence to all onboard safety standards, FAA regulations, and company policies, ensuring passenger compliance.
- Provides exemplary customer service, assisting passengers throughout the flight while upholding the esteemed standards of both CommuteAir and its codeshare partner, United Airlines.
- Completes all required checklists, paperwork, and reports in accordance with the Flight Attendant Manual.
- Communicates effectively and promptly with pilots and ground crew to facilitate efficient and safe flight operations.
- Maintains readiness to respond and act decisively in emergency situations at any point during a flight.
- Complies rigorously with all company policies as outlined in the Flight Attendant Manual and Employee Handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned and agreed upon within applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or authorized alien).
- Possession of a valid United States or foreign passport with all necessary VISAs, ensuring unrestricted travel to and from all CommuteAir-served cities.
- Fluency in the English language, both written and spoken.
- Successful completion of a 10-year background history check, including a criminal background investigation.
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable customer service experience.
Personal Attributes & Skills:
- Ability to consistently adhere to company uniform and grooming standards while on duty. Visible tattoos or piercings, other than in the ears, are not permitted.
- Demonstrates exceptional professionalism, maintaining composure and a polished appearance at all times.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics for problem-solving and completing paperwork.
- Strong reading comprehension skills to understand work-related documents thoroughly.
- Excellent listening skills, with the ability to give full attention, ask clarifying questions, and understand information.
- Adept at evaluating new information for effective problem-solving and decision-making in both current and future scenarios.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with passengers, colleagues, and vendor/contractor representatives.
Physical Requirements
The role requires medium work, involving the ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force consistently to move objects. Candidates must be between 4'11" and 5'11" in height without shoes due to cabin height restrictions.
- Capable of pushing and controlling a wheeled beverage cart weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, bend, and twist, navigating effectively in confined cabin spaces.
- Capable of reaching and operating emergency equipment and exits.
- Possesses clear auditory perception, even in loud environments.
- All physical requirements should be achievable with or without reasonable accommodation.
Visual Acuity:
This position demands a level of visual acuity consistent with machine operators requiring inspection, close assembly, and administrative tasks. This minimal standard is necessary for roles involving data preparation and analysis, accounting, computer use, extensive reading, visual inspection of small defects or parts, and the operation of machines utilizing measuring devices, assembly, or fabrication of parts.
Environmental Conditions:
Flight Attendants will experience varied weather conditions, with activities primarily occurring inside the aircraft but with exposure to outside elements, including temperature variations from over 90 degrees Fahrenheit to under 32 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on location and climate changes. The work environment can involve significant noise levels requiring a raised voice to be heard. Atmospheric conditions may also lead to heightened movement and cabin discomfort.
