Flight Attendant

Responsibilities:
- Ensure the highest levels of safety and security on board the aircraft.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing passenger needs with understanding, compassion, and grace.
- Adapt to diverse customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity.
- Effectively communicate in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations and medical emergencies.
- Serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
- Work independently and as part of a team to ensure smooth flight operations.
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to uniform and grooming standards.
- Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from base for extended periods.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED required; two or more years of college preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service, etc.) is required.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable, especially Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, or Tagalog.
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and be able to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements, including standing, walking, kneeling, bending, lifting heavy objects, and passing a functional reach assessment.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal background history that does not prohibit travel to or from anywhere United flies.
- Tattoos are permitted on arms, wrists, legs and feet, but must not be larger than a credit card/employee badge and must not be offensive. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear.
- Decorative covers, adornments and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour.
- Seniority-based pay increases and additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.

Training:
New hires will participate in a 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. Upon successful completion of training, Flight Attendants will be assigned to one of United's hub locations: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or another flight attendant base location.
