Qualifications:
- At least 21 years of age at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED; two or more years of college preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching, aviation, social service).
- Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Fluency in spoken, written, and understood English.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Fluency in Japanese (spoken and written).
- Ability to effectively communicate in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance and commitment to adhering to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted, but the visible portion must not exceed the size of a credit card (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered with standard uniform pieces. Tattoos must not be offensive (e.g., violent, obscene, sexual, racist, or contain objectionable content or imagery that includes weapons).
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for task completion.
- Valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity prior to expiration.
- Eligibility to travel globally without restrictions.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United Airlines without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bin), and push and pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Successful completion of a functional reach assessment (combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach, simultaneous, without shoes).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Flexibility in scheduling, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
Onboarding and Training:
- Successful completion of a water evacuation drill during training.
- Completion of pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Passing DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens (medical and recreational marijuana prohibited).
- Passing a 10-year background check, including criminal background history.
