The Role and Training

As a Flight Attendant with United Airlines, the incumbent will be integral to the operation of the world's largest airline, renowned for its rapidly expanding network. This highly sought-after position requires no specialized prior schooling or a college degree, as United provides comprehensive, industry-leading training. The intensive 6.5-week Initial Training program, held in Houston, TX, focuses on United's stringent safety and service standards. Upon successful completion, a base assignment will be allocated to one of United's seven major hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles. Following base orientation, the new Flight Attendant will be officially welcomed as a full-time United employee. During the training period, a stipend of $140 per week is provided, alongside dual-occupancy hotel accommodations and two daily meals.

Compensation and Benefits

United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package, beginning with an hourly flight pay of $28.88, with the potential to reach $67.11 per hour based on seniority. Additional compensation is available for language proficiency, lead positions, and international flights. Employees benefit from:

Qualifications and Requirements

Prospective candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
  • High school diploma or GED; a minimum of two years of college education is preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service experience in a service-oriented industry.
  • Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and audibly, particularly in emergency situations.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Greek.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Effective communication skills during high-stress situations.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to grooming, uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Visible tattoos are permitted on arms, wrists, legs, and feet, provided they do not exceed a specified size (credit card/employee badge dimensions) or are offensive in nature. Tattoos on the head, hands, or neck are not permitted.
  • No decorative dental adornments or jewelry in the mouth.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic devices.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. passport book or a foreign equivalent with at least 18 months of validity remaining at the time of application, and eligibility for unrestricted global travel.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restrictions.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (up to overhead bins), and push/pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs).
  • Successful completion of a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach and hold).
  • Ability to sit securely in an assigned jump seat with a fastened seatbelt and shoulder harness.
  • Willingness to serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Availability for a flexible work schedule supporting United's 24/7 operations.
  • Successful completion of an in-water evacuation drill during training.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment DOT drug screening, background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screenings; use of medical or recreational marijuana is prohibited.
  • Successful completion of a 10-year background check, ensuring eligibility for travel to all United destinations (note: DWI/DUI convictions may impact travel to certain countries like Canada).
  • Meeting Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines hearing and vision requirements, including specific audiometric thresholds and corrected vision of 20/40 or better.
