Flight Attendant / Cabin Crew

United Airlines, one of the world's largest airlines with a vast and growing network, is seeking dedicated and customer-focused individuals to join its inflight team as Flight Attendants. This highly desired role offers the unique opportunity to travel the globe while providing essential safety and exceptional service to passengers. No prior aviation experience or specific college degree is required, as comprehensive training is provided.

The Role

A United Flight Attendant is primarily responsible for ensuring the highest levels of safety for all passengers and fellow crew members. Beyond safety, this role requires a "People-First" demeanor, characterized by the ability to adapt, respond to diverse customer scenarios, and serve with optimism and positivity. Flight Attendants engage directly with customers, leveraging outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding and grace. Given United's extensive route network, flexibility is paramount. Flight Attendants must be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. This includes fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from their base for multiple days. Dependability and timeliness are critical for operational success and meeting customer expectations. The position also requires serving and/or selling food and beverages professionally.

Training and Development

Successful candidates will participate in comprehensive, paid training. The initial phase involves approximately 6.5 weeks of training in Houston, TX, where trainees learn United's safety procedures and customer service standards. During this training, United provides accommodations, daily breakfast and lunch, and a weekly stipend of $140. Upon successful completion of training, individuals are welcomed as full-time employees and assigned to one of United's seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or another flight attendant base location. Relocation funds are not provided. Successful training graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.

Compensation and Benefits

United offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Starting hourly flight pay is $28.88, with the potential to reach a top base scale of $67.11 per hour. Pay increases are based on seniority, and additional compensation is provided for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates for the Flight Attendant position must meet the following criteria:

Be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
Possess a high school diploma or GED. Two or more years of college are preferred.
Have at least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Be willing and able to work a flexible schedule supporting a 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Possess a valid passport book (U.S. or foreign with applicable visas) in good condition at the time of application, with at least 18 months of remaining validity. Eligibility to travel globally without restrictions is required. Candidates must have the physical passport in hand prior to application; having applied or waiting for renewal is not sufficient.
Be able to travel to and from all countries United serves as a working crew member, identifying and verifying personal travel eligibility for all destinations.
Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, with sufficient volume for emergencies.
Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
Ability to speak, read, and write Greek fluently.
Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations such as evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
Maintain a professional appearance with excellent grooming standards and adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Visible tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear). Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not be larger than a credit card (3.5 inches x 2.24 inches) or must be covered by standard uniform pieces. Visible tattoos must not contain offensive content. Decorative covers, adornments, or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops) for required tasks.
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage to overhead bins, window exits), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes.
Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.

Onboarding and Pre-Employment

Flight Attendant candidates must successfully complete a water evacuation drill during training. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment requirements, including a DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests. The DOT/FAA mandates pre-employment and randomized drug screening; the use of medical or recreational marijuana is prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the role. Candidates must pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history, which must not prohibit travel to any United destination. For example, convictions or probation for DWI/DUI within the last 10 years may restrict travel to Canada unless a Temporary Resident Permit has been obtained.
