Position Summary
The Museum of Flight is seeking a dedicated Aeronautical Sciences Summer School Instructor to provide high-quality aviation instruction for students in grades 9 through 12. This position plays a critical role in fostering the next generation of aviation professionals by delivering foundational aeronautical knowledge through the Private Pilot Ground School and Aeronautical Explorations courses.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver curriculum for Private Pilot Ground School (FAA exam preparation) and Aeronautical Explorations (career introduction) to high school students.

Utilize diverse instructional methods, including flight simulators, project-based learning, and traditional classroom settings.

Manage student behavior and provide ongoing educational and program support.

Collaborate with administration, instructors, and support staff to ensure seamless program execution.

Coordinate with internal departments regarding program logistics and resource requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications

Experience:
Professional background in the aviation industry is required. Experience in teaching, facilitating high school programming, or training aviation professionals is preferred.

Knowledge:
Demonstrated understanding of basic aviation principles and concepts.

Skills:
Excellent leadership, verbal/written communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint).

Certifications:
Must be able to obtain Conditional CTE Certification through the Washington State Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (requires a minimum of 3,000 hours of aviation industry experience). A Private Pilot License, Ground Instructor Certification, Certified Flight Instructor, or similar aviation certification is preferred.

Abilities:
Ability to maintain authority and self-direction, prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and solve problems effectively.
Work Schedule and Physical Demands
This is a temporary, salaried position. Prep work begins June 22, 2026, with courses running from June 29 through July 17, 2026. The typical work schedule is 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, subject to Museum needs.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 35 pounds with assistance, prolonged periods of sitting or standing, and occasional physical activity such as bending, reaching, and walking.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary:
$1,551.00 – $2,170.00 per week, commensurate with experience.
