Aviation Composites Instructor
Location: GAC Savannah
Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation seeks a highly skilled and experienced Aviation Composites Instructor to join its team in Savannah. This position involves facilitating technical and manufacturing training curriculum, with a strong focus on composite repair and layup techniques within the aviation industry. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and delivering training programs to support manufacturing and repair station operations.
Position Purpose:
Under limited supervision, the instructor facilitates technical, regulatory, or manufacturing training curriculum. They may be involved in course design and enhancements in conjunction with senior staff, supporting training requirements across all GAC facilities as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct classroom and practical training sessions for manufacturing and repair stations, covering topics such as structures, avionics, composites, torque, Click Bond, Permaswage, regulatory compliance (FAA, EASA, CAAC, OSHA, EPA), and relevant computer software at all GAC facilities.
- Ensure all training materials, including course outlines, lesson plans, books, handouts, presentations, and computer-based training (CBTs), meet defined training objectives while adhering to departmental, company, and training provider standards.
- Identify, research, and verify the technical accuracy of information necessary for training course development. Monitor relevant information sources to determine required changes to existing training programs.
- Collaborate with other department members to ensure comprehensive and timely responses to training-related issues and coordinate training functions with the training manager.
- Interface with various departments to stay informed about product changes or modifications and incorporate these updates into new or existing training programs. Act as an internal consultant to GAC clients on training, work process, and development issues in coordination with HR Business Partners. Conduct periodic visits to departments to foster understanding, cooperation, and ensure training requirements are being met.
- Maintain and update training records in accordance with company and training provider standards.
- Promote and contribute to a spirit of teamwork within the department and across the organization.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure training equipment is functioning correctly and training facilities are maintained in an orderly and professional manner.
- Promote and maintain a safe training environment for all participants.
- Cross-train to be able to teach other courses as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
This role requires significant experience in a mechanical role within the aviation industry, specifically associated with aircraft composite repair, layup, and structures.
- Extensive background in composite repair and layup techniques (e.g., honeycomb, fiberglass, epoxy, graphite, kevlar, carbon fiber).
- Knowledge of vacuum bagging, vacuum schedules, ribbon direction, ply orientation, wrap clock, and electrical bonding.
- Experience with serviceability testing on repaired components.
- Familiarity with hot bonders and their usage.
- Knowledge of various epoxy resin types.
- Some experience in aircraft structures is beneficial.
- Must demonstrate excellent presentation skills and the ability to effectively deliver course material.
- Must exhibit good organizational skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, and team-building skills.
- Skilled user of Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to maintain control in a classroom environment and diffuse difficult situations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate’s Degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Six years of experience in the aviation industry is preferred.
- One year of training experience is required.
