Technical Instructor, Composites – Aviation (GAC Savannah)
Overview
Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Instructor specializing in Composites for its GAC Savannah facility. This full-time position is pivotal in delivering expert-led training on aircraft composite repair and advanced manufacturing processes, contributing to the continued excellence of Gulfstream products.
Position Purpose
Under limited supervision, the Technical Instructor facilitates comprehensive technical, regulatory, and manufacturing training curricula. This role offers opportunities to contribute to course design and enhancement, collaborating closely with Senior Technical Trainers or Instructional Designers. The instructor supports vital training initiatives across all Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation (GAC) facilities as required, ensuring a highly skilled workforce.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for:
- Conducting engaging classroom and practical training sessions to empower Manufacturing and Repair Stations in the meticulous build, maintenance, and repair of Gulfstream aircraft. This encompasses a broad spectrum of subjects including structures, avionics, composites, torque, Click Bond, Permaswage, as well as critical regulatory and safety training necessary for compliance with FAA, EASA, CAAC, OSHA, EPA standards, and advanced computer software training across all GAC facilities.
- Ensuring that all training materials, including course outlines, lesson plans, books, handouts, presentations, and computer-based training (CBTs), meticulously meet established training objectives and adhere to stringent departmental, company, and training provider standards.
- Identifying, thoroughly researching, and verifying the technical accuracy of information essential for the development of new training courses. This involves proactively monitoring all applicable information sources to determine required updates and changes to current training programs.
- Interfacing effectively with other departmental members to ensure comprehensive and timely responses to training-related issues, and diligently coordinating all training functions with the Manager of Training.
- Collaborating strategically with various departments to ensure the training department remains fully knowledgeable of product changes or modifications, subsequently incorporating these critical updates into new or existing training programs. The instructor will serve as an internal consultant to GAC clients on training, work process, and development issues, in close coordination with Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP), and conduct periodic departmental visits to foster strong understanding, cooperation, and ensure training requirements are consistently met.
- Accurately updating and maintaining training records in strict accordance with company and training provider standards.
- Actively soliciting, promoting, and exhibiting a strong spirit of teamwork and collaboration within the department and across the broader organization.
Additional Responsibilities
Beyond the core functions, the instructor will also:
- Ensure that all training equipment is functioning properly and that training facilities are consistently maintained in an orderly and professional manner.
- Promote and ensure a safe and secure training environment for all participants.
- Cross-train to teach other courses on an as-needed basis to support departmental flexibility and coverage.
- Perform other assigned duties as required to meet evolving organizational needs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Candidates must possess a robust background in a mechanical role within the aviation industry, with specific expertise associated with aircraft composite repair, layup, and structures.
Preferred Skills and Experience Include:
- Extensive background in composite repair and layup techniques, encompassing honeycomb, fiberglass, epoxy, graphite, Kevlar, and carbon fiber.
- Proficient knowledge of vacuum bagging, vacuum schedules, ribbon direction, ply orientation, wrap clock, and electrical bonding.
- Familiarity with serviceability tests on repair components.
- Demonstrated experience with hot bonders and their practical application.
- Comprehensive understanding and practical use of various epoxy resin types.
- Proven experience in aircraft structures.
Education & Experience Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate’s Degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the aviation industry is preferred.
- At least one (1) year of dedicated training experience is required.

- The flexibility and capability to conduct training across all shifts and GAC facilities.
- The ability to maintain effective control in a classroom environment and skillfully diffuse difficult situations when necessary.
- Willingness to travel, with anticipated travel up to 25% of the time.
