Airport Operations Training Specialist

Job Responsibilities

  • Full-time position.
  • Collaborate directly with the Manager of Airport Operations Training and supervisors.
  • Assist in the development of computer-based and classroom learning experiences for various functions.
  • Instruct and facilitate computer-based training, eCampus modules, CRO classes, and soft skills development.
  • Develop and maintain training programs based on assigned areas of expertise.
  • Proactively identify and propose innovative, efficient, and safer operational methods within station and training environments.
  • Ensure training materials incorporate all current policies, procedures, and FAA/TSA requirements, updating and communicating changes promptly.
  • Effectively transfer knowledge to students through various methods, including written modules, manuals, handouts, PC-driven programs, videos, lectures, and demonstrations, ensuring current materials are used and instructors do not simply read from provided text.
  • Maintain on-task and motivating instruction.
  • Accurately record class progress and provide required information to the Administrative Assistant in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to the Department Manager and students' Station Managers, reporting any issues immediately to the supervisor.
  • Complete required reports promptly.
  • Support the training and opening of both contract and SkyWest stations.
  • Prioritize safety for all Airport Operations employees by integrating safety focus throughout instruction, observing station operations, and reporting discrepancies in writing.
  • Collaborate with individual station trainers and Station Managers to ensure consistency in department philosophy and adherence to current policies and procedures.
  • Occasionally travel to stations for on-the-job training and instruction, and assist stations with limited staffing or during opening/closing.
  • Support the Airport Operations Department and other departments with special projects and assignments.
  • Fulfill assignments as directed by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Possess a valid, unrestricted state-issued driver’s license.
  • Two years of experience in an airline customer service position or two years in an instructor role. Supervisory or managerial experience is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication, editing, and writing skills with an emphasis on quality and thoroughness.
  • Energetic, creative, and adaptable individual; a proponent of change.
  • Skills in developing quality programs and fostering individual growth.
  • Applicants must not have any current counseling statements or similar disciplinary actions in their personnel file.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrated team-player and people-oriented attitude.
  • Innovative and self-motivated.
  • Previous facilitated learning development experience is beneficial.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Typing speed of at least 30 words per minute.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Flash, and other development software is helpful.
  • Familiarity with customer service principles and SkyWest philosophy.
  • Thorough understanding of all policies outlined in station and operations manuals.
  • Current knowledge of all FAA/TSA or other federal mandates, including:
    • Passengers with disabilities
    • Security
    • Baggage operations
    • Air Cargo operations
    • Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials (DG/HM)

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel is required.
  • Ability to periodically stand, walk, and sit.
  • Hourly pay rate is $20, non-negotiable.
  • Preference for candidates located in a major hub; proximity to any airport will be considered.
  • This position is not considered safety-sensitive by the Department of Transportation.
