The Opportunity: C-5 Pilot/Aircraft Systems Instructor
CAE is seeking a highly skilled and experienced C-5 Pilot/Aircraft Systems Instructor to deliver specialized instruction on C-5 aircraft systems and operational procedures. This role involves providing comprehensive classroom and simulator-based aviation training, ensuring the highest standards of readiness for military personnel.
The instructor will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), contributing to curriculum development and review, and may undertake additional administrative and collateral duties such as publications, safety oversight, quality audits, scheduling, and other tasks as assigned by program or site management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides expert Pilot procedures instruction within dynamic classroom and advanced simulator environments.
- Assists in the development and ongoing updates of cutting-edge training devices.
- Contributes as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the creation of new course curricula and the meticulous review and revision of existing lessons.
- Offers insightful suggestions for continuous improvement and modernization of training policies and procedures.
- Cultivates a positive learning atmosphere, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and tasks.
- Performs thorough diagnosis and remediation of student performance challenges.
- Supports various project and development initiatives as directed.
- Manages essential administrative duties, including student record-keeping, progress monitoring, counseling, quality assurance, safety protocols, and security measures.
- Maintains exemplary proficiency in the operation of Aircrew Training Devices.
- Acquires and sustains comprehensive instructional proficiency across all assigned areas, demonstrated through successful standardization checks and classroom evaluations.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Must be a qualified C-5 AMP/C-5M Aircraft Commander with a minimum of 1,000 hours of C-5 flight experience.
- A graduate of a formal instructor course or possess prior C-5 instructor pilot experience with at least 200 hours of instructional time. C-5 Air Refueling (AR) instructors must hold prior C-5 AR Instructor qualification.
- Demonstrated expertise as a competent Subject Matter Expert (SME) with formal training in instructional methodologies.
- Proficient in evaluating, diagnosing, and critiquing student performance, accurately identifying learning difficulties, recognizing unachieved objectives, and prescribing and conducting effective remedial instruction.
- Capable of identifying and resolving course and lesson deficiencies with precision.
- Adept at managing student records within the system, including induction, purging, generating performance reports, and responding to inquiries regarding student's progress.
- Exceptional ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from diverse communication forms (verbal, non-verbal, written).
- Strong facilitation and data analysis skills are essential.
- Ability to participate in periodic aircraft familiarization flights to maintain operational currency.
- Must acquire and maintain comprehensive proficiency in emergency procedures.
- A strong aptitude for reading, analyzing, and interpreting complex documents, with the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Proven capability to generate effective oral and written presentations and proposals on intricate subjects.
- Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to calculate figures and amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages, and to interpret graphs effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Capable of working effectively with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to work overtime, various shifts, and any day of the week as required to meet operational demands.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This dynamic role operates within office, classroom, and highly specialized simulator environments. The instructor will routinely utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and various communication devices.
The work involves a complex military training setting, requiring consistent communication and report submission through company, government, and personal computer systems, alongside traditional telephone and fax devices. The individual will occasionally encounter areas with a risk of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts driven by high-pressure hydraulics.
Physical Requirements Include:
- Ability to sit comfortably in a standard instructional aircraft chair, reaching controls and lifting hands above the head as necessary.
- Potential exposure to extreme heat, airborne particles, and elevated noise levels.
- Capability to stand and conduct academic instruction in both simulator and classroom settings.
- Ability to walk and/or climb stairs and ladders to access simulator cockpits or aircraft.
- Capacity to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under machinery for inspection or maintenance tasks.
- Aural and olfactory acuity to detect potential problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and their surrounding environment (e.g., unusual noises, odors).
- Requirement for domestic and international travel as needed.
