Air Traffic Control Instructor II (En Route) – Jacksonville ARTCC
Smart1 Management Solutions, a premier women-owned small business, seeks a highly experienced Air Traffic Control Instructor II to join its Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. Partnering with SAIC at the Jacksonville ARTCC, the successful candidate will provide critical training services to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This hands-on role demands the consistent delivery of superior classroom and simulation laboratory training to diverse student populations, encompassing developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs).
The FAA's commitment to aviation safety relies heavily on a highly skilled and well-trained air traffic control workforce. This position plays a vital role in fulfilling this responsibility by contributing to the training and development of specialists within the National Airspace System (NAS). The selected candidate will contribute directly to the FAA’s mission of safely managing over 50,000 daily aircraft operations. This includes the delivery of both initial and recurrent training programs for air traffic control specialists, aligning with SAIC’s comprehensive support for all types and levels of ATC facilities.
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- A minimum of five (5) years of FAA CPC experience managing live air traffic, or recent experience as a contract instructor at an FAA facility of equivalent or higher complexity to the Jacksonville ARTCC.
- Proven proficiency in current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures.
- Demonstrated mentorship capabilities for students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs), and participation in curriculum design and development.
- Possession of the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities within the U.S. National Airspace System.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification is mandatory, with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Direct experience as a CPC at the Jacksonville ARTCC (preferred, but not required).
- Operational experience with ATC simulators, including scenario design for simulation platforms (e.g., TSS, AT Coach, SGET, etc.).
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrated by effective collaboration with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure training services align with both local facility needs and the broader FAA Air Traffic Control mission.
- Proven excellence in teaching and/or platform skills, classroom management, and a student-centered approach to continuous improvement.
