Position Overview
This is a full-time position within Airport Operations. The Airport Operations Trainer works closely with the Manager AO Training/UAX and supervisory personnel. The role involves developing, instructing, and maintaining training programs for various functions within airport operations, focusing on safety, efficiency, and adherence to regulatory requirements. The trainer plays a crucial role in equipping employees with the knowledge and skills necessary for success.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with management and supervisors.
- Develop and assist in the creation of computer-based and classroom training materials for diverse functions.
- Deliver instruction and facilitate learning sessions covering computer use, eCampus modules, CRO (Complaint Resolution Official) training, and soft skills.
- Develop or maintain assigned training programs based on expertise and departmental needs.
- Continuously identify and propose innovative, efficient, and safer methods for station operations and training environments.
- Ensure training materials accurately reflect current company policies, procedures, and all applicable FAA/TSA requirements, promptly updating content and communicating changes.
- Effectively impart knowledge to students through various methods including written materials, manuals, PC programs, videos, lectures, and demonstrations, utilizing current resources.
- Maintain engaging and focused instruction.
- Keep meticulous class records and provide required information to administrative staff in a timely manner.
- Evaluate student performance, provide feedback to department managers and station managers as required, and immediately report significant issues to assigned supervisors.
- Complete all required reports promptly.
- Support training efforts and operational readiness for both contract and SkyWest-operated stations.
- Emphasize safety throughout all training phases and operational observations, reporting discrepancies in writing.
- Work alongside station trainers and managers to ensure consistency in training philosophy and adherence to current policies and procedures.
- Travel occasionally to stations for on-the-job training, instruction, and to provide operational assistance during staffing limitations or station openings/closings.
- Assist the Airport Operations Department and other departments with special projects and assignments as needed.
- Undertake duties and assignments as requested by management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without requiring sponsorship.
- Must hold a valid, unrestricted state-issued driver’s license.
- Requires a minimum of two years experience in airline customer service or two years in an instructor/trainer role. Supervisory or managerial experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated excellent communication, editing, and writing skills with an emphasis on quality and thoroughness.
- Must be energetic, creative, and a proponent of positive change.
- Possesses skills in developing effective training programs and fostering individual growth.
- Applicants should not have any current counseling statements or similar disciplinary actions in their personnel file.
- Willingness to travel extensively is required.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Must be a team player and people-oriented.
- Demonstrates innovation and self-motivation.
- Previous experience in facilitated learning development is beneficial.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel is required.
- Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Flash, and other development software is helpful.
- Familiarity with customer service principles and the SkyWest philosophy.
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant policies outlined in station and operations manuals.
- Possession of current knowledge regarding FAA/TSA and other federal mandates, including but not limited to:
- Passengers with disabilities regulations
- Security protocols
- Baggage operations procedures
- Air Cargo operations
- Dangerous Goods (DG) / Hazardous Materials (HM) regulations

Physical & Other Requirements
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to periodically stand, walk, and sit.
- Starting salary range is $37,000 – $42,000, based on years of service with SkyWest Airlines.
- This position is not designated as a Department of Transportation safety-sensitive position.
