Key Responsibilities of a SkyWest Flight Attendant
The primary role of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is to ensure the paramount safety of all passengers onboard the aircraft. This dynamic and exciting position offers daily opportunities for travel, new challenges, and the chance to embody the essence of SkyWest's service excellence to its customers. Important responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the paramount safety and comfort of all passengers throughout the flight.
- Cultivating a positive and productive environment for both colleagues and customers.
- Efficiently managing in-flight service, including preparation, serving, restocking of beverages, meals, and snacks, and handling onboard sales.
- Warmly greeting passengers, assisting with proper stowage of carry-on baggage, and delivering clear, concise onboard announcements.
- Providing decisive leadership, direction, and assistance during both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Skillfully de-escalating and resolving diverse passenger situations, including managing disorderly conduct and providing aid during medical emergencies.
- Strictly adhering to safety regulations by diligently inspecting and safely operating critical aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment, such as escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Maintaining adherence to established procedures and performance standards with minimal supervision.
Minimum Requirements
Successful candidates for the Flight Attendant position must meet the following criteria:
- A minimum age of 21 years.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A current, valid U.S. or foreign passport book, valid for at least 12 months from the application date, and any necessary visas permitting unrestricted travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas, required prior to training.
- Exceptional English communication skills, both verbal and written, essential for conveying critical safety information to passengers and drafting accurate, detailed reports on irregular, emergency, and security incidents.
- Proficiency in utilizing basic functions of electronic devices and Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) for operating audio/video systems, managing in-flight purchases, and fulfilling other operational and training responsibilities.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including varied shifts up to 16 hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel frequently and comfortably spend extended periods away from home, independently.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Willingness to relocate to an assigned crew domicile following successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training. Current domiciles include:

Physical and Other Requirements
Candidates must fulfill the following physical and appearance standards:
- Height must be between 5'0" and 6'0" (without shoes) to safely perform duties, including sitting in a jump seat, fastening harnesses, maneuvering through cabin aisles, and operating emergency exits, while adhering to aircraft dimension requirements.
- Physical capability to perform tasks such as frequent walking, bending below ankle level, reaching above shoulder level, opening emergency exits and closing aircraft doors (up to 45 pounds), pushing/pulling beverage carts (up to 250 pounds), and lifting, storing, transporting, and reaching for items, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision not exceeding 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing range between 15-17kHz.
- A professional, neat, and clean overall appearance.
- Adherence to uniform standards regarding hair styles and colors, with no extreme styles or colors permitted.
- Compliance with appearance guidelines: a single stud nose piercing (2mm or smaller) is permitted; up to two piercings per ear are allowed; gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs and not exceed ½”; other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
- Visible tattoos are permitted under specific guidelines regarding dimension and location. Tattoos not meeting these criteria must be covered by the uniform or skin-tone compatible tattoo makeup; bandages are not an approved covering. Offensive tattoos must not be visible.
- Willingness to wear a company-issued uniform and compliant face mask/covering as required.
Compensation and Benefits
- Guaranteed Flight Hours: Upon successful completion of Phase One and Two of Initial New Hire training, new hire Flight Attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve (paid for 76 flight hours, regardless of actual flight hours flown).
- Starting Pay: The starting pay is $29.73 per flight hour.
- Base Monthly Compensation: 76 flight hours x $29.73 per flight hour = $2,437.80 gross per month. (This figure does not include per diem, boarding pay, or any flight hours worked beyond the monthly guarantee).
- Per Diem: An additional $2.25 per diem is paid for every hour an employee is on duty away from their assigned domicile.
