The Role of a SkyWest Flight Attendant
The primary role of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers aboard the aircraft. This dynamic and exciting position offers opportunities to travel, confront new challenges daily, and embody the essence of SkyWest Airlines to its valued customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures the safety and comfort of all passengers onboard the aircraft.
- Consistently contributes to a positive and productive work environment with both colleagues and customers.
- Efficiently prepares, serves, and restocks in-flight beverages, meals, and snacks, including the sale of onboard liquor and food items.
- Greets passengers, assists with carry-on baggage stowage, and delivers clear onboard announcements.
- Provides effective leadership, direction, and assistance during both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Calmly and professionally resolves passenger situations inflight, including managing disorderly passengers and responding to medical emergencies.
- Ensures strict compliance with safety regulations by inspecting and safely operating aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment such as escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Adheres to established procedures and performance standards with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for the Flight Attendant position must meet the following criteria:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Prior to attending training, the applicant must possess a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport book valid for at least 12 months from the application date, along with any applicable visas necessary for free travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Possesses excellent English communication skills to provide vital safety information to passengers and to write clear, factual, and detailed reports pertaining to irregular, emergency, and security events.
- Proficient in utilizing basic functions of electronic devices and Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) for operating audio and video systems, collecting and tracking in-flight purchases, and performing other flight and training duties.
- Willingness to work varied shifts up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel frequently and spend lengthy periods of time alone and without supervision.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
- Must be willing to relocate to one of SkyWest's crew domiciles as assigned by the company after successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training. Current domiciles include:

Physical Requirements and Appearance Standards
Applicants must satisfy the following physical and appearance requirements:
- Height and weight must allow for safe operation of the aircraft and must not exceed specific aircraft dimensions (e.g., ability to sit in a jump seat and fasten the harness, move throughout the cabin aisle, and operate emergency exits). For safety, height must be between 5’0” to 6’0” without shoes.
- Must be physically able to perform tasks that require frequent walking, bending below ankle level, and reaching above shoulder level; able to open emergency exits and close aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds; able to push and pull a beverage cart weighing up to 250 pounds; and able to lift, store, transport, and reach for items with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing range within 15-17kHZ.
- Overall appearance must be professional, neat, and clean.
- No extreme hairstyles or colors are permitted.
- A single stud nose piercing 2mm or smaller is allowed. Two piercings allowed per ear. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs and must not exceed ½”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
- Visible tattoos are permitted with limitations based on dimension and location. Tattoos that do not fall within these guidelines must be covered by the uniform or with skin-tone compatible tattoo makeup. Bandages are not an approved form of tattoo coverage. Offensive tattoos must not be visible.
- Must wear a company-issued uniform and comply with face mask/covering requirements as mandated.
Compensation and Benefits
- Guaranteed Flight Hours: Upon successful completion of Phase One and Two of Initial New Hire training, new Flight Attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours per month as a reserve (paid for 76 flight hours regardless of actual flight time accrued, up to the guarantee).
- Pay: The starting pay is $29.73 per flight hour. Base compensation is $2,437.80 gross per month (based on 76 guaranteed flight hours). This figure does not include per diem or compensation for flight hours worked beyond the monthly guarantee.
- Per Diem: An additional per diem of $2.25 is paid for every hour on duty away from the domicile.
