Primary Responsibilities
The foremost role of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety of passengers while onboard the aircraft. This dynamic and exciting position also includes caring for passengers and delivering exceptional customer service, such as serving meals and drinks. Flight Attendants travel, encounter new challenges daily, and embody the essence of SkyWest for customers. Key duties include:
- Ensuring passenger safety and comfort onboard the aircraft.
- Consistently contributing to a positive and productive work environment with colleagues and passengers.
- Efficiently preparing, serving, and restocking in-flight beverages, meals, and snacks, and conducting onboard sales of liquor and food.
- Greeting passengers, assisting with carry-on baggage stowage, and delivering onboard announcements.
- Providing effective leadership, direction, and assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Calmly resolving passenger situations during flight, including handling disorderly passengers and medical emergencies.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations by inspecting and safely operating aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment such as escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and automatic external defibrillators (AED).
- Adhering to established procedures and performance standards without supervision.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates for the Flight Attendant position must meet the following qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior to attending training, applicants must hold a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport book valid for at least 12 months from the application date, along with any applicable visas necessary to travel freely between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Demonstrate excellent English communication skills, required for providing safety information to passengers and writing clear, factual, and detailed reports pertaining to irregular, emergency, and security events.
- Be comfortable utilizing basic functions of electronic devices and Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) to operate audio and video systems, collect and track in-flight purchases, and perform other flight and training duties.
- Be willing to work varied shifts up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Be capable of frequent travel and spending lengthy periods of time alone and without supervision.
- Must be reliable and punctual.
- Must be willing to relocate to one of the company-assigned crew domiciles upon successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training. Current domiciles may include:

Physical and Appearance Standards
The role requires meeting specific physical and appearance guidelines:
- Height and weight must allow for safe operation of the aircraft and may not exceed specific aircraft dimensions (e.g., ability to sit in jump seat and fasten harness, move throughout the cabin aisle, and operate emergency exits). Height must be between 5’0” to 6’0” without shoes.
- Must be physically able to perform tasks that require frequent walking, bending below ankle level, and reaching above shoulder level; open emergency exits and close aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds; push and pull a beverage cart weighing up to 250 pounds; and lift, store, transport, and reach for items, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing range must be within 15-17kHZ.
- Maintain a professional, neat, and clean overall appearance.
- No extreme hair styles or colors are permitted.
- A single stud nose piercing 2mm or smaller is allowed. Two piercings are allowed per ear. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs and must not exceed ½”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
- Visible tattoos are permitted with limitations based on dimension and location. Tattoos not within these guidelines must be covered by the uniform or with skin tone compatible tattoo makeup. Bandages are not an approved form of tattoo coverage. Offensive tattoos must not be visible.
- Must wear a company-issued uniform and compliant face mask/covering as required.
Compensation
Upon successful completion of Initial New Hire training (phases one and two), new hire Flight Attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve, meaning they are paid for 76 flight hours regardless of the actual flight hours flown up to that amount.
- The starting pay is $29.73 per flight hour. Base compensation based on the guarantee is 76 flight hours x $29.73 per flight hour, totaling $2,437.80 gross per month. This amount does not include per diem, boarding pay, or any flight hours worked beyond the monthly guarantee.
- Per Diem: Flight Attendants receive a per diem of $2.25 for every hour spent on duty away from their domicile.
