Role Overview
The primary responsibility of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers throughout their journey. This vital role also encompasses providing attentive care and delivering exceptional customer service, including the serving of meals and beverages. Key Responsibilities
- Ensures the safety and well-being of customers aboard the aircraft.
- Contributes consistently to a positive and productive work environment for both colleagues and customers.
- Manages the preparation, service, and restocking of in-flight refreshments, meals, and snacks, including the sale of onboard liquor and food items efficiently.
- Greets passengers warmly, assists with the proper stowage of carry-on baggage, and delivers clear onboard announcements.
- Provides effective leadership, guidance, and support in both emergency and non-emergency scenarios.
- Handles and resolves passenger situations calmly during flight, addressing issues such as disruptive behavior and medical emergencies.
- Verifies compliance with safety regulations through inspection and safe operation of aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment (e.g., escape slides, fire extinguishers, oxygen bottles, AEDs).
- Adheres strictly to established procedures and performance standards, demonstrating the ability to work autonomously.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Prior to commencing training, applicants must hold a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport book with at least 12 months of validity remaining from the application date, along with any necessary visas for travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills in English, essential for conveying safety information to passengers and producing accurate, detailed reports on irregular, emergency, and security events.
- Comfortable utilizing basic functions of electronic devices and PEDs for operating audio/video systems, managing in-flight purchases, and performing other operational and training duties.
- Availability to work varied shifts, including schedules up to 16 hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be capable of frequent travel and spending extended periods away from domicile without direct supervision.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential attributes.

Physical and Other Standards
- Height and weight must permit safe operation within aircraft dimensions, including sitting in the jump seat with the harness fastened, moving freely within the cabin aisle, and operating emergency exits. Height must be between 5’0” and 6’0” without shoes.
- Must be physically capable of performing tasks involving frequent walking, bending below ankle level, and reaching above shoulder level. This includes opening emergency exits and closing aircraft doors (weighing up to 45 pounds), pushing/pulling a beverage cart (weighing up to 250 pounds), and lifting, storing, transporting, and reaching for items, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
- Hearing range must be normal or corrected within 15-17kHZ.
- Maintains a professional, neat, and clean overall appearance.
- Extreme hair styles or colors are not permitted.
- A single stud nose piercing (2mm or smaller) is allowed. Up to two piercings per ear are permitted. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs not exceeding ½”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are prohibited.
- Visible tattoos are permitted with limitations based on size and location. Tattoos outside these guidelines must be covered by the uniform or skin-tone compatible makeup. Bandages are not approved for coverage. Offensive tattoos must not be visible.
- Must wear a company-issued uniform and compliant face mask/covering as required.
Compensation
Upon successful completion of Phases One and Two of Initial New Hire Training, new hire Flight Attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve. Compensation is provided for a minimum of 76 flight hours, regardless of the actual flight hours flown within that period.
- Starting Pay: $29.73 per flight hour.
- Base Monthly Compensation: Calculated as 76 flight hours * $29.73 per flight hour = $2,437.80 (Gross per month). This figure excludes per diem boarding pay and any flight hours worked beyond the guaranteed minimum.
- Per Diem: An additional $2.25 per diem is paid for every hour spent on duty away from the assigned domicile.
