Primary Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers onboard our aircraft. This crucial role also includes providing exceptional customer service, including preparing and serving meals and drinks with care. This dynamic and exciting position presents daily opportunities to travel, meet new challenges, and embody the spirit of SkyWest to every passenger.
Key duties include:
- Ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers throughout the flight.
- Contributing consistently to a positive and collaborative work environment with both colleagues and customers.
- Preparing, serving, and replenishing in-flight beverages, meals, and snacks with efficiency. This includes selling onboard liquor and food.
- Greeting passengers upon boarding, assisting with carry-on baggage, and delivering clear onboard announcements.
- Demonstrating effective leadership and providing clear direction and support during emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Calmly resolving passenger situations, including managing disruptive behavior and addressing medical emergencies.
- Ensuring compliance with all safety regulations by inspecting and operating aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment. This includes escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Adhering to established procedures and performance standards with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Must hold a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport valid for at least 12 months from the application date, along with any required visas to travel freely between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Exceptional English communication skills are required to effectively convey safety information and produce concise and accurate reports on irregular, emergency, and security-related incidents.
- Comfortable using basic functions of electronic devices to operate audio and video systems, manage in-flight purchases, and execute other training and flight-related tasks.
- Must be willing to work varied shifts up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel frequently and spend extended periods of time independently without supervision.
- Must maintain excellent reliability and punctuality.
- Must be willing to relocate to one of the designated crew domiciles following successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training. Available locations include: Atlanta, GA; Boise, ID; Chicago, IL; Colorado Springs, CO; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Fresno, CA; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; Palm Springs, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; and Tucson, AZ.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Height and weight must allow for the safe operation of the aircraft, including being able to sit in the jump seat and fasten the harness, move freely in the cabin aisle, and operate emergency exits. Height must be between 5'0" and 6'0" without shoes.
- Must be able to perform tasks requiring frequent walking, bending (below ankle level), reaching (above shoulder level); operate emergency exits and aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds; push and pull beverage carts weighing up to 250 pounds; and lift, store, transport, and reach items with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision must not exceed 20/40.
- Must have normal or corrected hearing within the range of 15-17 kHz.
- Must maintain a professional, neat, and clean appearance.
- Extreme hairstyles and hair colors are not permitted.
- A single stud nose piercing of 2mm or smaller is permitted. Two piercings per ear are allowed. Ear gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs not exceeding ½". Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
- Visible tattoos are permissible within limitations on size and location. Tattoos outside of these guidelines must be covered by the uniform or skin-tone compatible makeup. Bandages are not an acceptable form of tattoo coverage. Offensive tattoos must remain covered at all times.
- Must wear the company-issued uniform and compliant face masks or coverings as required.
Compensation and Benefits:
New hire flight attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve after completing initial training (whether one flies 1 hour or 76 hours, the flight attendant is compensated for 76 flight hours). The starting pay is $28.86 per flight hour. Base compensation is calculated at 76 flight hours x $28.86 per flight hour, which equals $2,193.36 gross per month. (Note: this does not include per diem or any flight hours worked beyond the monthly guarantee.) Per diem pay is an additional $2.25 for every hour on duty away from one's domicile.
