Primary Responsibilities

The Flight Attendant’s primary duty is to safeguard passengers during flight. This encompasses:

  • Ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers onboard.
  • Providing exceptional customer service, including meal and beverage service.
  • Creating a positive and productive environment for both colleagues and passengers.
  • Preparing, serving, and restocking in-flight provisions, including beverages, meals, and snacks, with the possibility of selling onboard liquor and food.
  • Greeting passengers, assisting with carry-on baggage, and delivering onboard announcements.
  • Providing effective leadership and assistance during emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Calmly resolving passenger issues during flight, including handling disorderly passengers and responding to medical emergencies.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations by inspecting and safely operating aircraft cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment.
  • Adhering to established procedures and performance standards independently.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport valid for at least 12 months beyond the application date, with any necessary visas to travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
  • Excellent English communication skills are required for delivering safety information and writing clear, detailed reports on irregular, emergency, and security events.
  • Comfort in using basic functions of electronic devices and PEDs to operate audio/video systems, track in-flight purchases, and other flight-related tasks.
  • Must be willing to work varied shifts, up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel frequently and spend significant periods alone, without direct supervision.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Must be willing to relocate to one of SkyWest's crew domiciles following successful completion of InFlight Training (assignments made by company). Domicile locations include:

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Must be able to operate aircraft safely, conforming to height restrictions (5'0" to 6'0" without shoes), weight limitations, and being able to fit in a jump seat while being able to fasten the harness.
  • Must be capable of performing tasks requiring frequent walking, bending, and reaching, as well as lifting, storing, transporting, and reaching for items with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to open emergency exits and close aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds; push and pull a beverage cart up to 250 pounds.
  • Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
  • Normal or corrected hearing range within 15-17kHZ.
  • Must maintain a professional, neat, and clean appearance.
  • No extreme hair styles or colors are permitted.
  • Single stud nose piercing 2mm or smaller is allowed. Two piercings allowed per ear. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin toned plugs and must not exceed ½”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
  • Visible tattoos are permitted with limitations based on size and placement. Tattoos not compliant must be covered by the uniform or skin-tone-compatible makeup. Offensive tattoos must not be visible.
  • Must wear the company-issued uniform and a compliant face mask/covering.

Flight Hours & Compensation

New hire flight attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve after completing the initial training phases. The starting pay is $28.86 per flight hour, which equates to a gross monthly compensation of $2,193.36 based on 76 flight hours, not including per diem, boarding pay or any additional flight hours worked. A per diem rate of $2.25 is provided for every hour on duty away from the domicile.
