Aviation Flight Attendant - Cabin Crew Specialist
The Flight Attendant is a vital member of the cabin crew, dedicated to delivering an exceptional and secure travel experience for all passengers. This role serves as the primary liaison between the airline and its guests, ensuring safety compliance and outstanding customer service throughout the flight journey.
Role Purpose
The Flight Attendant's paramount responsibility is to safeguard the safety and comfort of passengers, operating in strict accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and comprehensive Inflight guidelines. This position ensures adherence to all security protocols and delivers a high standard of hospitality within the dynamic aviation environment.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Performs all required regulatory and assigned cabin duties, maintaining constant vigilance over guest needs while fostering a safe, secure, and comfortable onboard experience.
- Maintains expert knowledge of all emergency procedures and the proficient use of onboard emergency equipment. This includes the ability to operate all emergency exits and aircraft equipment, requiring necessary movements and force of up to 70 pounds.
- Provides professional food and beverage service to passengers, which involves the physical exertion of pushing and pulling movable service carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
- Assists passengers efficiently with the stowing of carry-on baggage, capable of handling items weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Ensures the aircraft cabin environment remains consistently neat, orderly, and presentable.
- Contributes actively to reliable and on-time flight operations by collaborating effectively with other crewmembers to meet all reporting, departure, and minimum turn times.
- Executes inflight sales and promotional duties as assigned, enhancing the passenger experience.
- Supports other Customer Service staff as required, assisting with passenger handling and various operational duties.
- Upholds reliable and prompt attendance, strictly adhering to Company policies and procedures.
- Projects a polished and professional image, both through exemplary conduct and adherence to the Company uniform dress code.
- Complies diligently with all associate Rules of Conduct outlined in applicable company manuals.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and currency of all Inflight guides and operational manuals.
- Actively promotes and embodies the Company’s core values and culture throughout the work environment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or required to support airline operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or GED is required, complemented by a minimum of two years of demonstrated customer service experience.
- Candidates must be at least 20 years of age by the date of the initial interview.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Additional years of customer service experience are highly preferred, particularly within an aviation or airline environment.
- Previous experience as a Flight Attendant is a distinct advantage.
Additional Requirements
- Possesses exceptional interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a strong customer-oriented mindset.
- Must be willing and able to serve alcoholic beverages.
- Must be able and willing to serve and handle various food items, including peanuts, meals containing shellfish/seafood, beef, and pork.
- Able to work comfortably with animals and around common allergens and products found in an aircraft environment.
- Adherence to the Company's Flight Attendant Style Guide (Dress Code) is mandatory. Tattoos are strictly prohibited on the face (including the front from ears forward, underside of chin and cheeks), neck (area down to where a uniform shirt collar would clearly and consistently cover), and hands (tops, palms, and fingers, up through the wrist bone). Tattoos in non-prohibited areas must not be visible at any time while in uniform.
- A wingspan of approximately 55 inches or greater is required to safely reach and operate all necessary aircraft equipment.
- For safety reasons, candidates must be able to sit securely in the Flight Attendant jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without requiring an extender or any modification that could compromise harness integrity. (Reference: Lap belt measurement is 50 inches when fastened; shoulder harness measurement is 40 inches when fastened.)
- Multiple visible piercings while in uniform are not permitted.
Language Proficiency
- Ability to proficiently read, analyze, and interpret complex technical procedures and governmental aviation regulations.
- Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from management, fellow crewmembers, passengers, and the general public.
- Must be fluent in spoken English, including the ability to communicate and be clearly understood, particularly when delivering shouted verbal commands during emergency situations.
Reasoning and Decision-Making
- Demonstrates a willingness to thrive in a time-sensitive operational environment and effectively manage stress associated with deadlines and unexpected changes.
- Capable of interpreting a variety of complex and multiple instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
- Must possess the ability to remain calm, think clearly, and react swiftly and appropriately in all types of emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.
- Makes informed day-to-day decisions essential for supporting flight operations, often requiring thoughtful consideration within established structures.
- Able to process information rapidly and react positively and effectively during unexpected and/or serious situations.
- Capable of controlling personal and emotional responses, acting professionally and appropriately even under high levels of stress.
Physical Requirements
- Possesses the physical strength required to reach and operate all emergency equipment and exits, utilizing necessary movements and force up to and including 70 pounds.
- Capable of safely lifting objects above shoulders, weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Able to push and pull movable service carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
- Capable of walking and standing for extended periods, even during aircraft turbulence.
- Must be able to stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and kneel as required for various duties.
- Maintains clear vision (20 feet or more) with or without corrective lenses/contacts.
- Able to clearly hear verbal communications in person and via airplane communication systems, amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Must be able to sit securely in the assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
- Must be able to move freely, effectively, and quickly within the aircraft's confined environment to perform all required functions.
- Able to work extended duty periods on sequential days.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Willingness and ability to work in a culturally diverse atmosphere and interact professionally with passengers and crew, even under stressful conditions.
- Possesses the ability to accommodate customers' special needs and disabilities.
- Willing and able to work extended and varied schedules, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel and Relocation
This position requires extensive travel, up to 100% of the time, encompassing nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. Candidates must be willing to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
