Job Summary

A Flight Attendant is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of passengers in strict adherence to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company guidelines. This role is pivotal in delivering an exceptional onboard experience while maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence within the aviation industry.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Executes all regulatory and assigned cabin duties with unwavering attention to guest safety, ensuring a secure and comfortable onboard environment.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all emergency procedures and proficiently operates all emergency equipment, including emergency exits, requiring the ability to apply movements and force up to 70 pounds.
  • Provides professional and attentive food and beverage service to passengers, which involves pushing and pulling moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
  • Assists passengers with stowing carry-on baggage weighing up to 35 pounds, and ensures a consistently neat and orderly cabin environment.
  • Contributes actively to reliable and on-time flight operations by coordinating effectively with crew members to meet all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
  • Conducts inflight sales and promotional duties as assigned.
  • Collaborates with other Customer Service staff as needed to facilitate efficient passenger handling.
  • Upholds impeccable attendance records and presents a highly professional image, both in conduct and strict adherence to the company uniform dress code.
  • Ensures continuous compliance with all associate Rules of Conduct and maintains current knowledge of all Inflight guides and manuals.
  • Embodies and promotes the company's core values and culture within the work environment.
  • Performs additional duties as required to support operational needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of customer service experience.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age by the initial interview date.
  • Preferred: Additional years of customer service experience, particularly within an aviation setting.
  • Preferred: Prior Flight Attendant experience.

Other Requirements

  • Exhibits polished interpersonal skills, a positive demeanor, and a customer-centric approach.
  • Must be willing to serve alcoholic beverages and handle various food items including peanuts, meals containing shellfish/seafood, beef, and pork.
  • Ability to work comfortably with animals and around other potential allergens and products.
  • Strict adherence to the company's Flight Attendant Style Guide regarding appearance, specifically prohibiting visible tattoos on the face (from ears forward, including underside of chin and cheeks), neck (area down to where a uniform shirt collar would clearly and consistently cover), and hands (including tops, palms, and fingers up through the wrist bone); all other tattoos must not be visible while in uniform.
  • Must possess a minimum wingspan of approximately 55 inches to safely reach and operate all necessary aircraft equipment.
  • Capability to sit comfortably in the Flight Attendant jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modification or extender (lap belt measurement 50 inches, shoulder harness 40 inches).
  • No multiple visible piercings while in uniform.

Language Skills

  • Demonstrates strong language proficiency, including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical procedures and governmental aviation regulations.
  • Must effectively present information and respond clearly to inquiries from management, crew, passengers, and the general public.
  • Possesses the ability to speak and be clearly understood in English, including delivering shouted verbal commands during critical emergency situations.

Reasoning & Problem-Solving Ability

  • Exhibits exceptional reasoning and problem-solving abilities, particularly in a time-sensitive and dynamic operational environment.
  • Capable of interpreting and executing diverse, multi-faceted instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.
  • Maintains composure and demonstrates the ability to think critically and react swiftly in all emergency scenarios, including but not limited to medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.

Decision Making

  • Possesses strong decision-making capabilities, enabling the effective handling of daily operational decisions, often requiring thoughtful consideration within structured guidelines.
  • Proficiently processes information rapidly and reacts positively during unexpected or serious situations.
  • Maintains emotional control and acts appropriately under high-stress conditions.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role requires significant physical stamina and adaptability. The Flight Attendant must:

  • Possess the physical strength to reach and operate all emergency equipment and exits, requiring necessary movements and force up to and including 70 pounds.
  • Be capable of lifting objects above shoulders up to and including 35 pounds.
  • Be able to push and pull moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
  • Be able to walk and stand for extended periods, sometimes with aircraft turbulence.
  • Be able to stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and kneel.
  • Possess clear vision (20 feet or more with corrective lenses or contacts).
  • Be able to clearly hear verbal communications in person and over airplane communication systems with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
  • Be able to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
  • Be able to move about aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly in a confined environment.
  • Be able and willing to work extended duty periods on sequential days.

The work environment is culturally diverse, requiring professional interaction with passengers and crew under potentially stressful conditions. The ability to accommodate customers’ special needs/disabilities is essential. This position involves extensive and varied work schedules, including early mornings, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Frequent travel, up to 100% of the time, is required, with a willingness to relocate based on company operational needs.
