Flight Attendant

Position Purpose

As a Flight Attendant, the primary responsibility is to ensure the safety, comfort, and exceptional service experience of passengers in strict accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and company guidelines. This role is pivotal in upholding the highest standards of in-flight service and operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

The Flight Attendant performs a wide range of essential duties, ensuring a safe and pleasant journey for all passengers. Responsibilities include:

  • Executing all regulatory and assigned cabin duties, maintaining constant attention to guest needs while fostering a secure and comfortable onboard environment.
  • Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of all emergency procedures and proficiently operating emergency equipment on board the aircraft, including emergency exits, which may require physical exertion up to 70 pounds.
  • Providing professional food and beverage service, which includes pushing and pulling movable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
  • Assisting passengers with stowing carry-on baggage weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Ensuring a consistently neat and orderly cabin environment throughout the flight.
  • Contributing to reliable and on-time flight operations through collaborative teamwork with fellow crewmembers, adhering to all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
  • Performing inflight sales and promotional duties as assigned.
  • Providing support to other Customer Service staff as needed for passenger handling or additional duties.
  • Maintaining reliable and prompt attendance, in full compliance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Upholding a professional image in both conduct and appearance, strictly adhering to the Company's uniform dress code.
  • Complying with all associate Rules of Conduct as outlined in applicable manuals.
  • Ensuring currency of all Inflight guides and manuals.
  • Actively fostering the Company’s core values and culture within the work environment.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned or required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED is required, complemented by at least two years of demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age by the date of the first interview.
  • Preferred: Additional years of customer service experience, particularly within an aviation environment, and/or previous Flight Attendant experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from management, crew, passengers, and the general public.
  • Must be fluent in English, capable of clear verbal communication, including shouted commands during emergency situations.

Reasoning & Problem-Solving Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively in a time-sensitive environment and manage stress associated with meeting deadlines and handling unexpected changes.
  • Capable of interpreting a variety of and multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to remain calm, think critically, and react swiftly in all types of emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.

Decision Making

  • Capable of making day-to-day decisions that support the operation, often requiring thoughtful consideration and adherence to structured guidelines.
  • Ability to process information quickly and react positively during unexpected and/or serious situations.
  • Proficient in controlling personal and emotional responses and acting appropriately under high levels of stress.

Other Requirements

  • Possess polished interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and a strong customer-oriented mindset.
  • Must be willing to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Must be able and willing to serve and handle various food items, including peanuts, meals containing shellfish/seafood, beef, and pork.
  • Able to work with animals and around other allergens and products.
  • Strict adherence to the Company’s Flight Attendant Style Guide regarding tattoos: tattoos are not permitted on the face (including the front of one’s face from their ears forward, the underside of one’s chin, and cheeks), neck (the area down to where a uniform shirt collar would clearly and consistently cover), and hands (including both the tops and palms of one’s hands and fingers, up through the wrist bone). Tattoos in non-prohibited areas must not be visible at any time while in uniform.
  • Must have a wingspan of approximately 55 inches or greater to reach and safely operate all necessary equipment on the aircraft.
  • For safety reasons, must have the ability to sit in the Flight Attendant jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without extender or other modification that may compromise the integrity of the harness. (For reference: The lap belt measurement is 50 inches when fastened, and the shoulder harness measurement is 40 inches when fastened).
  • Must not have multiple piercings visible while in uniform.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Must possess the physical strength to reach and operate all emergency equipment and exits using necessary movements and force up to and including 70 pounds.
  • Capable of lifting objects above shoulders up to and including 35 pounds.
  • Able to push and pull moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
  • Able to walk and stand for extended periods, sometimes during aircraft turbulence.
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and kneel.
  • Able to see clearly at 20 feet or more with corrective lenses or contacts.
  • Able to clearly hear verbal communications in person and over airplane communication systems amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
  • Must be able to sit in the assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
  • Must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly in a confined environment.
  • Able to work extended duty periods on sequential days.

Work Environment

  • Able and willing to work in a culturally diverse atmosphere and professionally interact with passengers and crew under potentially stressful conditions.
  • The ability to accommodate customers’ special needs/disabilities.
  • Willing and able to work for extended periods of time as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.

Travel Requirements

  • Extensive travel, up to 100% of the time, is required, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
  • Willingness to relocate based on the Company’s operational needs.
