Flight Attendant
Position Summary
The Flight Attendant is a vital member of the cabin crew, primarily responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers throughout the flight. This role operates strictly in accordance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company Inflight guidelines, prioritizing safety while delivering exceptional onboard service.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs all required regulatory and assigned cabin duties with diligent attention to passenger needs, providing a safe, secure, and comfortable onboard experience.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all emergency procedures and the proper use of onboard emergency equipment. Operates all emergency exits and aircraft equipment, requiring physical movements and force up to and including 70 pounds.
- Provides food and beverage services to passengers, which includes pushing and pulling moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds.
- Assists passengers with the safe stowage of carry-on baggage, including items weighing up to and including 35 pounds.
- Ensures the cabin environment remains neat, orderly, and presentable.
- Contributes significantly to a reliable and on-time operation by collaborating effectively with fellow crew members to meet all reporting, departure, and minimum turn times.
- Conducts inflight sales and promotional duties as assigned.
- Supports other Customer Service personnel as needed with passenger handling and other related tasks.
- Maintains reliable and prompt attendance, strictly adhering to Company policies and procedures.
- Upholds a professional image in both conduct and appearance, including strict adherence to the Company uniform dress code and grooming standards.
- Complies with all associate Rules of Conduct as outlined in applicable company manuals.
- Ensures currency and thorough understanding of all Inflight guides and manuals.
- Actively fosters the Company’s core values and culture within the work environment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or required to support operational needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of two years of customer service experience. Candidates must be at least 20 years of age by the date of the initial interview.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Additional years of customer service experience, particularly within an aviation environment, are highly desirable. Previous experience as a Flight Attendant is a significant advantage.
Other Requirements
- Possesses polished interpersonal skills, coupled with a positive attitude and a strong customer-oriented mindset.
- Must be willing to serve alcoholic beverages.
- Must be able and willing to serve and handle food items including peanuts, meals containing shellfish/seafood, beef, and pork.
- Able to work in an environment with animals and various allergens and products.
- Adheres to the Company's Flight Attendant Style Guide (Dress Code) regarding tattoos and piercings. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, face, neck (including behind the ear), chest, hands, or fingers. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, ankles, and feet are permitted if less than 2” x 3.25”; otherwise, they must be fully covered by an approved method.
- Must have a wingspan of approximately 55 inches or greater to safely reach and operate all necessary aircraft equipment.
- Must be able to sit securely in the Flight Attendant jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without the use of an extender or modification that could compromise harness integrity. (For reference: Lap belt measurement is 50 inches fastened, shoulder harness 40 inches fastened).
- Must not have multiple piercings visible while in uniform.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Able to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from management, crew, passengers, and the general public.
- Must be able to speak and be clearly understood in English, including delivering shouted verbal commands during emergency situations.
Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability
- Capable of working effectively in a time-sensitive environment and handling stress associated with meeting deadlines and managing unexpected changes.
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Must remain calm, think clearly, and react quickly in all types of emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.
Decision Making
- Makes day-to-day decisions to support the operation, often requiring careful thought in somewhat structured situations.
- Able to process information rapidly and respond positively during unexpected or serious incidents.
- Capable of controlling personal and emotional responses and acting appropriately under high levels of stress.
Physical Requirements
The role demands physical capabilities necessary to perform essential functions successfully. These include: possessing the physical strength to reach and operate all emergency equipment and exits using necessary movements and force up to and including 70 pounds; capable of lifting objects above shoulders up to and including 35 pounds; able to push and pull moveable carts weighing in excess of 250 pounds; able to walk and stand for extended periods, even during aircraft turbulence; must be able to stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and kneel; able to see clearly at 20 feet or more with corrective lenses or contacts; able to clearly hear verbal communications in person and over airplane communication systems amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise; must fit in the assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modifications; must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively, and quickly in a confined environment; able to work extended duty periods on sequential days.
Work Environment and Schedule
The Flight Attendant works in a culturally diverse atmosphere, professionally interacting with passengers and crew under potentially stressful conditions. The role requires the ability to accommodate customers’ special needs and disabilities. Willingness and ability to work extended periods of time and a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays, are essential.
Travel Requirements
This position requires travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnights. Candidates must be willing to relocate based on the Company’s operational needs.
