Role Summary
As the public face of Horizon Air, the Flight Attendant serves as an authentic and gracious host. This position requires in-depth knowledge of inflight service duties and safety procedures, including the ability to perform necessary actions during flight. A strong desire to maintain a positive, approachable demeanor with both guests and colleagues is crucial for fostering an environment that people love. This is a union-represented position.
Key Duties
- Ensuring full understanding and compliance with all safety regulations.
- Verifying that all safety equipment on the aircraft is in proper working order.
- Greeting passengers, assisting with seating assignments, and managing carry-on baggage stowage and security.
- Explaining and demonstrating the use of safety equipment and emergency procedures.
- Preparing and serving meals and beverages, including alcohol.
- Effectively marketing onboard products and processing sales using a mobile device.
- Calmly resolving passenger situations during flight, including medical emergencies.
- Answering questions regarding flight operations and providing destination information.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Additional Details
Applicants for this role will be required to complete an audio assessment, estimated to take approximately 40 minutes.
Mandatory paid training is conducted in Portland, OR, for a duration of four (4) weeks.
The company maintains a specific tattoo policy for this role:
- No visible tattoos are permitted on the face, front of the neck, or chest.
- One tattoo the size of a quarter or smaller is allowed per hand.
- Tattoos in other areas must not exceed the size of a credit card and must not be offensive.
- One tattoo is permitted per arm, leg, foot, back of neck, and behind each ear.
- Tattoos on the back of the neck and behind the ears are only allowed if not visible when viewed directly.
- Tattoos may only be covered with a uniform piece or approved jewelry/watch; covering with makeup is not permitted.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required qualifications include:
- A minimum of 2 years of customer or community service experience.
- Uncompromising dedication to safety.
- Body size must not exceed specific aircraft dimensions necessary for duties (e.g., fitting in jump seat, harness without modification, cabin aisle, and emergency exits).
- Ability to meet the company's grooming, uniform, and appearance standards.
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of a flight attendant.
- Ability and willingness to relocate to any of the flight attendant bases: Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Medford, OR; Boise, ID; Spokane, WA; Anchorage, AK; Everett, WA.
- Willingness to serve alcohol.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort with technology.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
- Adaptability to perform a variety of duties effectively under stress.
- Availability to attend the required 4 weeks of paid training in Portland, OR.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current passport allowing unlimited access in and out of the United States. Non-U.S. passports require appropriate travel documentation. Must be able to fly unrestricted in and out of Canada.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 21 years old.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
Airport SIDA Badge Requirements
Employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar are required to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge issued by the airport authority. Failure to qualify for or loss of a SIDA badge will result in termination. A document outlining SIDA Badge Requirements is available for review.

Salary Details
The starting rate and subsequent step rates are determined per the collective bargaining agreement between Horizon Air and the AFA. The first-year step rate is $20.66 per contract hour.
